@Tim > Please try updating to firmware v1.72 and see if this solves the issue. Thank you.
Hello!
I have had my CDJ NXS2 Set up since November 2016. I upgraded the firmware in March. After the upgrade every once in awhile I will be playing out and there is a distortion / sounds like a small bit of bit crusher is playing out of on a CDJ. It also occurs in the headphone. I have to restart the CDJ and its gone. This sucks when it happens live (thankfully I had an extra usb being I had to restart the CDJ I was plugged into. It has happened on either CDJ at some time. The problem is very rare but also very frustrating when it happens in a live situation. I play (x a week @ 3 hours each and it has happened about 3-4 times.) Not too often, but once is enough to make you sad. I am using USBS, its at proper gain levels too. Since the firmware upgrade, none of my cue points I set stay either. When I press them it goes to the last track I searched for.
Thanks is advanced,
James B

@Tim > Please try updating to firmware v1.72 and see if this solves the issue. Thank you.
Just got brand new NXS2 units (3 of them) and one of the decks doing same exact thing, right out of the box. Latest 1.81 firmware so will need to send the deck back to you guys, unless there's a fix for this? Really sucks.
The set was being recorded, here's the audio file of that issue happening:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/0ctaequ2mly59nj/CDJ-2000nxs2%20distortion.mp3?dl=0
a friend of me told me that this issue can be prevented by choosing line instead 9f digital
Rohan, surely I will try that, but that's not really a solution to bad CDJ or faulty firmware.
@Mark Gallo > Thank you for the suggestion. Sorry for the delay in responding - wanted to see if we got further complaints after the upgrade - nothing yet.
@Anton > Have you tried disabling Master Tempo? Several have reported that the issue may be linked to this.
I just pulled up the ticket for this - the engineers were unable to replicate it with any firmware version and wonder if it was specific to the filetypes being played.
@Anton > What is the source audio file being played (type / bit depth / sample rate)?
@Anton @Rohan - I am running digital, are you as well? I am kind of bummed that switching to line would be the fix. It would be really nice to not have to worry though. It's always in the back of my mind. "Am I going to have to restart my CDJ tonight?"
Knowing that this only occurs with digital may help the engineers narrow it down - I'll add that information to the ticket.
@ JBSpecial I have am using digital but I can't really talk about this topic anymore cause i now play with 1 cdj tour and 1 cdj nexus 2 This is a theory by a rl friend of me So Pulse its not 100% confirmed
@Pulse, can you please send me your contact information so I can send in the faulty deck for inspection, and will also include the actual audio file that caused this issue. The CDJ literally is brand new, with only two shows on it.
Anton
@Anton > No need for that just yet, our engineers are working on this and may need you to provide more information.
@Anton > If you can also provide answers to the previously asked questions:
What mixer(s) have you used with the CDJ when this noise occurred?
Is the CDJ connected via analog or digital?
What specific operations trigger the noise? Or, does the noise occur while playing tracks normally without doing specific things?
Does this issue occur regardless of Master Tempo enabled or disabled?
Which TEMPO % range are you using, or does the range matter?
If they load and play a new track while the noise occurred, do you hear any difference?
CDJ-2000NXS2 plugged into Ch. 1 of DJM-900NXS2 via a 75ohm digital cable with the correct impedance matched Canare connectors. The track playing had master tempo engaged. The deck had been working fine for 5-6 hours until this issue occurred, with many other tracks that were played in Master Tempo mode as well. I don't recall the Tempo % range. I wasn't able to test the deck as the DJs decided to stop using it after the issue occurred (it was during a very important live gig situation).
I do have the recording of the entire night if you'd like to review it.
Have 2 x CDJ2000NXS2 DJM-900NXS2, Digital Link
have 1 unit on 1.71 and another on 1.8 to see if that fixed it..
Distortion starts happening at random, Static low quality compressed sound
Changed 1 unit to a CDJ-2000NXS thinking the player was broken..
plugged the player back in this morning to find its working perfectly...
Seems as if something in some files starts the fault off and then player decides its had enough fort he night ...
Please fix ASAP before I tell the DJs to bring Vinyl and leave the USBs at home..
I have the exact problem described above, is there anything I can do to fix the issue? Is it a firmware or hardware-problem? I still have warranty so I should be able to return it.
@Remco > Our engineers are still looking into it, thanks for your patience.
@ Pulse i have 1 cdj 2000nxs2 1 djm 900nxs2 1 cdj tour this sound occurd today at a dance4life event to make matters worse my nexus 2 did not restart properly eventuel after restarting a few times the screen showed up again howver i did not have this issue with djing in the bar last saterday my question would be is is it save to bring my nexus 2 with me when going to the bar as i really dont want to have these issues when playing for a bigger audience and as i am in the procces if becoming resident dj in the new bar i do not want ruin it due to firmware issues sincerly rohan
@Rohan > Not restarting could be the sign of a bigger problem (unrelated to this issue), but I would check the external power supply you were connected to (try using a different outlet), or power cable first. Be sure you're not rapidly power-cycling the unit either.
Hi I'm having this issue as well... has it been fixed with a firmware update or is this something where we need to send the CDJ in for repair? I didn't see any resolution in this thread.
@Aditya > It would help to have additional information:
- are you playing from a device connected to the CDJ directly (CD / USB / SD)?
- does it happen when playing from a linked source (ProDJ link to rekordbox / another CDJ)?
- are you playing from rekordbox in performance mode?
- what is the filetype that is playing when this occurs?
- does it always happen with that particular song?
I'm using Pioneer DJM 900 NXS2 with two CDJ 2000 NXS2 units connected via ethernet, playing off of a usb. Every single file played, MP3 and AIFF after a certain point in the night started exhibiting issues which sounded like the crush effect got stuck on for that CDJ for the rest of the night. I did use the crush effect with that unit once during the night, so maybe it's related to using that effect where it never completely turns off even if I switch to filter or dub echo? It's like it's faintly stuck on, and it's more audible on certain sound systems than others. Not super noticeable, irritable the moment you do pick up on it.
The weird thing is it was only stuck on for one CDJ, the other CDJ did not exhibit the issue.
Was the player that had the issue the host of the USB device or were the tracks loaded playing over the link?
Having the EXACT same issue at 2 different venues. One venue has CDJ2000-NXS2s on 1.83 connected to a DJM900-NXS the other has 2 CDJ2000-NXS2 on 1.84 Connected to a DJM900-SRT. In both venues, line is connected to a serato box who's outputs go into channel either 2 or 3 for left and right and the digital on each player goes to digital 2 or 3 for left or right so CD/USB djs select digital on the mixer, or line to use serato. For this reason switching to line is not an option. However setting the serato box to thru and using line the distortion subsides. It honestly sounds like a bitcrusher is turned on slightly and restarting the cdj fixes the issue.
In one venue we have CDJ2000-NXS as backup, in the other location we have 2 900s on channels 1&4 as well as CDJ850s as backup. This issue never happens on any other model than the NXS2 and almost every USB dj in both venues have had it happen to them. It's become a complaint i get phone calls about at least twice a week at each venue (both open 7 nights a week) and it's certainly gottten worse sice I put 1.81 on it (or at least that's around the time I first remember the complaints becoming more than once in a great while) I'll try killing Master tempo next time it happens to see if I can get the same experience as others.
@JL > If I could ask you to try something... connect the line outputs from the CDJ to one of the other channels on the mixer so you effectively have digital on one channel and analog on another - fade between the two sources to determine if it is, in fact, an issue with only the digital output.
@JL @Pulse,
I feel like it has been established time and time again (in this thread alone) it is definitely an issue with only the Digital Output.. Has Pioneer not been able to replicate this problem?
@JB > I'm asking him to confirm that for me, but thank you for your comment.
@Pulse I understand, I just wish there was some clarity. This is one of the most expensive purchases in my studio and I feel slightly short-changed. I started this thread and have been very patient following up with every post hoping for a solution since almost two years ago. Hopefully, we can have a solution soon. :)
I understand. As you can tell, not everyone is experiencing this issue, or there'd be a LOT more posts about it. The engineers are looking into it and I hope to be able to give you an answer.
@Pulseb I had a chance to sit down and play with one while it was acting up last night. It is digital only. I tried swapping the cables it and it didn't really make a difference but I wanted to try to rule it out. For me, Master tempo didn't seem to make a difference either. It just seemed to change the tone of the distortion. Honestly it SOUNDS like a bit crusher on the signal, but it doesn't put any eq filter on like the bit crusher fx on the djm.
Very strange. Please let me know if I can help any further!
