DJM s9 USB port

Hi guys, I want to just ask about functions of 2 USB Type-B ports on the back of DJM s9. I always use this port to communicate between serato and mixer, but I recently found on the global pioneer dj website, information that it could be used as the BPM - MIDI output.

So first of all can you tell me if this is true?

Secondly, if that is true, can i use this BPM - MIDI to sync external hardware like toraiz sp-16 or even something from other brands (AKAI MPC Live, prophet12 or Roland system 1).

Greetings!

The short answer is "no" because those other devices can't act as a USB host device to communicate with the S9's USB-B port.

The long answer is "yes" because you could send the BPM signal to your computer through MIDI, then use a MIDI output device to send that signal to your other outboard gear for sync purposes.

Hi there,

I have been referring to the midi implementation chart for the s9 lately and can't find any bpm clock mentioned unfortunately. Not sure it's possible at the moment to send/receive midi clock with the s9 outside of Serato.

Would be an awesome function to have on the S9. My Rane 62 can listen to Traktor's virtual midi clock no worries. And with the Link now it's even easier.

Might be worth adding a feature suggestion. I would certainly vote up :)

Peace,

-NC

Please note that there are many converters for this like Roland UM-ONE mk2 and even eurorack modules for example Doepfer A-192. So what's the problem to use the second sound card to sendings midi data?

@Grzegorz > No - the UM-ONE is a MIDI I/O device for your computer; it adapts the 5-pin MIDI DIN to USB, it's not designed to connect to a device such as the DJM-S9.

This is what you would need to achieve the "yes" answer; the DJM-S9 sends MIDI signal to your computer via USB, a software application receives the MIDI signal on the S9's input, then sends it to the UM-ONE's MIDI output, which you then connect to another device (keyboard, sampler, drum machine, whatever).
