Rekordbox not allowing me to find missing files

So this is the situation:

As you do i pinched a load of tunes (ie pretty much copied the whole memory stick) onto my laptop from a friend. I then exported all the playlist data as well through rekordbox so that (as you cant import from memory sticks yet within rekordbox) i could add all these songs into my collection/library.

I then added the songs to the collection. Following this I imported the playlists (.m3u) into rekordbox. It then stated that it couldnt that all the files were missing.
I thought ok thats a bit weird but ok. i then went down the missing files route (file->display all missing files) assuming that as read in a previous thread on this site it would find one and it would find the rest automatically. so i searched on my external hard drive (a Lacie thunderbolt) for the file as thats where they're all located. The file would come up but it would be grayed out and i wouldnt be able to select it event thought is was a perfectly normal mp3. I've tried this with multiple files and it doesnt seem to want to do it.

Any suggestions?

Can you please explain more in detail what you copied? Did. you copied the content folder from a rekordbox exported USB drive or copied the files directory from the file system of the other PC / Computer?

Have you checked the m3u file to see what path / file names are in the m3u and if they are matching the namens of the copied files?

There is a mistake in your thinking....

When you add the imported files into your Collection they are not missing. A Playlist is a listing of files. I guess you cannot Import a Playlist with files do not exist.

The only possibility would be to edit the m3u to Match the current path on your Computer before Importing it.

Hi Frank

So i copied both the contents and pioneer folders from the memory stick so that in future i could potentially create a clone of the memory stick. From this i imported all the contents folder into rekrodbox. All these audio files show up and work perfectly fine within rekordbox.

With the playlist import yeah i agree the directory for where the files are stored are probably different thus i thought using the missing files tool within rekordbox would sort it.

So just to re-explain what i did with possibly a little more clarity.
once i'd imported the playlist and it said all the files were missing i clicked files -> Display all missing files. This, as i found on another thread can be used to relocate and create a new directories for those missing files. So once i'd clicked that i selected a number of files and clicked the relocate button. Following this a little finder window pops up so i searched for the name of the file within the correct hard drive. The file came up but was grayed out ie i couldn't select it. Do you know why this is?

You've made my brain hurt thinking about this one ... first ... WHY!?

Two options:

1) You have access to his rekordbox:

Create a folder on the desktop.
Drag-and-drop the songs from the playlist you want to that desktop folder.
Copy the files to your export drive.
Connect the drive to your computer, stick them wherever you keep your music.
Import those songs into rekordbox.

2) You only have his USB drive (export device):

Copy the CONTENTS folder to where you keep your music.
Import those songs to rekordbox.

In either case, if you wanted to create a playlist within your own rekordbox library with those specific tracks, you can do so by directly importing those tracks directly to that new playlist.

I need to go rinse out my brain now... lol
