What Brand of SD Cards Will Work in a CDJ-2000NXS2?

What brand of SD cards work with the CDJ-2000NXS2? When I brought my pair of these lovlies, I dutifully rushed out and purchased 12 (yes, 12!) Lexar Platinum II 32GB SDHC memory cards, formatted them according to the manual, only to find out that they do not work in the CDJs. They work well enough within Rekordbox's export sync manager, but when inserted into the players, nothing comes up, not even an error message. The manual is at least honest enough to admit that not all SD cards will work in the unit, but that does not help the helpless end user such as myself. Am I missing something basic, or do I need simply to reinvest in another brand of memory cards?

My thanks in advance,

Major Tom

Double check that the SD-cards are formatted in FAT32. To my knowledge the Apple format HFS+ is good for almost all Pioneer products except for SD-cards in CDJ-players.

Dear H-M,

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I have tried formatting the SD cards with my Mac's Disk Utility as MS-DOS(FAT) as well as on a Windows machine as FAT32, but still the cards do not register in either of my CDJs, the display simply saying "No Card." I have even tried different card manufacturers and various sizes (1-2GB), but still no dice. The USB ports work perfectly well, so I remain baffled. I would prefer to use the SD cards as they are faster than the USB sticks, and I use my USB ports for a LED lighting of the decks and mixer. Moreover, the SD cards have no profile when inserted and therefore less likely to be accidentally pulled/yanked from its socket. So, what gives?

Did you try to erase the filesystem on the SD card, before formatting? Did you select MBR or GUI in your Mac's Disk Utilty?

Thank you for the efficacious reply. I have tried all possible formatting options on my Mac, including the NSA-standard wiping of all information from the SD card, but still I receive the "No Card" error on both decks. I don't like to swear, but what the f*ck? This is basic SD Card 101 level stuff.

I had a simular issue regarding SanDisk 32Gb SDHC cards and found out that the filesystem was causing the NXS2 not recognising the card. In OSX, disk utility, i erased the partition on the SD card from the factory, then made a new partition with MBR selected (GUID gave the same issues as you mention). Then formatted to FAT32 and started Recordbox, exported a few playlists to the SD card. Insert the SDcard in the NXS2, press SD and the music/playlists appear...

Well, I haven't felt this foolish in a long time.

Yes, your partition solution worked like a charm, and for that I am very grateful.  However, I have sussed the true reason for my abject failure to get these freekin' SD cards to work.  You know the adorable little hatch cover on the CDJ that protects the SD card slot?  For some reason, it never occurred to me to actually close the freekin' thing after inserting the card!!! Talk about an open palm head-smack moment.  I shouldn't be allowed out of the house.

Thanks again for your help!  Now, back to mixing...

Hi Tom,

I struggled with xDHC cards for quite a while, and couldn't figure it out. The manual for CDJ-2000NXS2 states quite clearly that it doesn't support cards over 32Gb. I tried with a 128Gb card, formatted with FAT32, and it didn't work. It should be noted that Windows will not allow you to chose FAT32 when trying to format partitions over 32Gb, so you need to use another program for that. The CDJs will not recognize exFAT filesystem, which Windows prefers.

Anyways. It would be awesome if anyone got this working. My idea was to have my operative collection in the SD always, just to be on the safe side of things should something fail.
