The hourglass-terror: Rekordbox is slow/blocking

Hi Guys!

Last monday I imported +- 400 new songs in Rekordbox. Since then Rekordbox Performance doesn't work probably anymore.

I can play + - 4 songs and then the hourglass pops up. Often it takes a very long time before the porgramma just returns to its usual response.

For example, when "the hourglass-terror" starts I only can play with my fader, the cue-button, play-button and sometimes with the channel, all the other pads/loops/buttons/… don't react and also the screen seems to freeze. When a song is a playing and another songs is in a loop I can't put that song out of the loop, while the hourglass is on my screen.

Neither my mixer nor my computer responds, Rekordbox is really blocking then.I have now +- 6000 songs in Rekordbox, but until a week ago I had never a problem.

Some background information:

  • While using Rekordbox Performance there are no other applications running in the background.

  • I use a Macbook Pro with OS X El Capitan. Memory:  8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3 ; CPU: 2,9 GHz Intel Core i5

  • With Rekordbox I use a PIONEER DDJ-SX (1st generation)

  • All my music is (in case my computer would crash) on an external hard drive from LaCie. This is connected with Thunderbolt with my computer. I used this for more then one 2 years now and never had a problem with it.

  • I tried the newest version of Rekordbox (5.0), but also then the program is blocking.

It is really frustrating. On this moment I can't preform all night long, just because I can't trust my equipement, and more specific: Rekordbox.

What can I do? Do I have too much songs? Do I have to reinstall Rekordbox (and what about all my cue's…)?

Hope somebody can help!

Thank in advance.

Kind Regards

Robbe

You have no worry about losing cues, memory points, waveforms, etc., but as you're already using an external drive for your music, have you considered putting the database there as well? And even though that's on an external drive, I also recommend you keep a backup copy somewhere (you can backup the rekordbox database and music through the software using the File > Library > Backup Library process).

There could be something with the database or another background task which is slowing the response of the computer - I'll suggest you file an inquiry ticket with our rekordbox support team so they can gather some additional information to further assist you in resolving this issue.

I will take a look at it, is it possible that one of the last imported songs is damaged and therefore the program is blocking? Or the quantity of the songs?

Thank you for your quick respons!

It could well be, but I'd expect that to only be a problem during the import process. My guess (and it's only a guess) would be an issue with the database, but typically it's an "all or nothing" kind of issue, where it will load or not load, as opposed to causing a slow-down. A ticket would be your best bet, our engineers can get you to upload the database file(s) if necessary for analysis.
