Help please...will Rekordbox duplicate all files!?

Hi All

Serato user, need to play on CDJs tomoro night so frantically trying to work out reckordbox.  Here's my scenario:

* I have a 128GB USB that houses all my tunes
* iTunes manages those tunes in playlists
* I normally plug in that USB, and play w/ Serato via the iTunes Playlists

So.. w/ Rekordbox I plugged in my USB mentioned above, and see all my iTunes playlists... so  If i was to SYNC these playlists within Rekordbox to the same USB will it re-copy all the files or is it smart enough to know the files already exist on that drive????

oh and only SYNC'ing playlists within Rekordbox so that I can get full use of the software in the CDJ.

i understand i can simply plug in the USB and navigate to files... but i want to use the sorting/search functions which require analysis etc right.

 thanks

Hello,

If you have an external drive (HD or USB) which you want to use as your masterdatabase for Rekordbox, as well as an Export USB device to play on the hardware, Rekordbox will not duplicate your files on that drive when you synchronise or export your playlists to the device. The links or filepaths of the playlist will refer to the normal location of the music files, which are also used in the masterdatabase.

@Pulse: I’m quite sure it doesn’t because I’m using it in the exact same way since always: I have an external drive with music on it that covers 75% of the drive capacity. I added all the music to my RB library and into playlists. Then export all the playlist to the same drive to be able to use on the CDJ’s. After exporting the drive only had 76-77% of the capacity used. So it adds some analyzing info but there are no music files duplicated. I also have no Contents folder (which I do have on other drives where I export to where there are no music files on before). And it works perfectly for months already to DJ with...

thanks for all the replies.

so just a follow up... yes i exported playlists to SAME drive as original source and no, it DIDN'T duplicate all files!  (yup it did create a "Contents" folder tho and there were 5 songs added to that... not sure why as I can confirm they were/still are all in the original source?)  anyhow, i was able to successfully play off CDJs w/ Rekordbox w/ no issues apart from missing my laptop!  jokes, it was actually quite liberating not looking into a screen and having to listen to mixes again instead of lazily watching wav's!
