[CLOSED] Help recording from USB on DJM-850

So just got all setup with new kit...

1x DJM 850 and 2x CDJ 2000

I am moving from using Traktor Kontrol S2 so I am used to just being able to click record from within the software and all is good. Anyway I have download the DJM 850 driver software for OSX and installed Audacity. I have both CDJs connected to channel 2 and 3 and the DJM software setup to REC out on channel 4 (switched to USB).

In Audacity I have selected the DJM and my device. Start playing on the decks and hit recird, all seems ok as Audacity is recording the mix but on playing it back it seems very distant and the quality is crap. I have it setup to record at 44KHz 32bit so wondering what could be wrong?

Or is there better software to be using, can I record inside Traktor?

Thanks

Dez

Ok I got it working routing it through USB 1/2 but now when recording in Audacity it records fine for say 30 seconds and the audio goes all weird and crackly/digital sounding. I am recording at 44Khz 24bit. Any idea why its doing this, tried several tracks from USB all run through rekordbox and purchased from Beatport.

Tried about 10 times and each recording bumps out at random times but all under a minute.

MBP 2.4GHz 4Gb ram late 2009 edition.

I am still having problems recording from my DJM-850 via USB. I have recorded an 8 minute sample....

If you listen near the very end the sound drops off and starts becoming all broken up and digital sounding, can someone please help me resolve this?

@Dez > Sorry, I don't have an 850 here to try and replicate the issue, but I've created a ticket with the engineers so hopefully they'll be able to get us some info.

Ok thanks

I've just updated to OSX Mountain Lion only to find I can't record at all now as the driver utility is only compatible with OSX 10.7 and I am now running 10.8.1 :(

Yes have tried and the software runs and Audacity picks up the mixer in the settings but no signal being received, tried both USB slots, restarted the Mac and upgraded Auadicty to latest 2.02. Have mixer set to USB 1/2 and REC OUT

I haven't got 10.8 installed for the very reason I need to be able to support various products and until Pioneer officially announces support across the full line, I can't upgrade.  I'll see if I can get any info on a timeline for OS X 10.8 compatibility.

@Pulse curious for an update on osx 10.8 as well. I'm considering purchasing a new MBP and they only come with the latest operating system (10.8). Would very much appreciate an update or at least a ball park timeline.

@Pulse when can we expect an update, spend over 1000 notes on something and it doesn't do what it says on the box. That's poor customer service!!

@Dez I just received my new MBP and it looks like I have the same issues as you.  No inputs coming through Traktor.  However for some reason, when I plug into my old MBP (on snow leopard) and run Traktor (to see that inputs are coming through for time coding) and then plug into my new MBP, I then get inputs coming through.  The only problem is that as soon as I turn off my mixer and turn on again I'm back to the same problem.  It seems the old MBP turns some kind of a switch on the pioneer 850 that my new MBP is not doing.  Weird.  So I guess I'm in the same boot and waiting for this update to the driver.

@Pulse what's the word????????/

@Dez also like to note that when I do have inputs coming through in Traktor on the new MBP I have no issues with audio.  Everything is clean, no bitcrunching and time code problems.   My issues were definitely due to the old laptop now I just need an update to the driver.

@Dez > From the engineers:

When we tested, we were not able to replicate the issue he has.

Please ask him the following questions.

  1. What is the OSX version was used before updating - when he first posted the question.
  2. What version of Audacity was used before updating - when he first posted the question.
  3. What is the latency setting within Audacity.
  4. As we believe he can still record using Traktor, does the digital noise occur even when recording by Traktor?
  5. While he mentioned “Tried about 10 times and each recording bumps out at random times but all under a minute,” the sample (sample.mp3) he linked has the sound dropouts at the very end of 8 minutes. This seems to be contradictory. What does this mean?

So no word on the new driver? Traktor does not work at all with the current driver on OSX 10.8.2. Are the engineers aware of this? Seems to be a major issue to me

@Sebastian > From the support page on PioneerDJ.com:

Verification of OS X Mountain Lion v10.8 support driver software is planned in beginning of November, 2012.

Glad to see Pioneer have updated the drivers support OSX Lion. I have been using them to record mixes and there is a vast improvement on the audio drop outs I was previously experiencing but its not ideal as I now get audio crackles and breaks every so often. You can see a example audio recording here: http://cruitme.com/stuff/audacity.png

As you can see there are small lines throughout the recording, this is using a MBP 2.4Ghz 4Gb ram and OSX Lion with Audacity 2.0.1.

Here is a screen showing the settings in Audacity as well: http://cruitme.com/stuff/audacity_settings.png

Any ideas?
