How accurate is RB?

I noticed my BPM on some songs can be way off, not 150.01 when it's really 150.00 but more like some songs are 122.00 when they should be 150.00BPM.

Not knowing Keys I wonder if the BPM is wrong, is the Key wrong too? If not for that one song, how about for others? (I would never know with Keys but if BPM's can be wrong I'm sure Keys can be as well even if the BPM is correct.?.)

Justin time for some Hardstyle!

I believe that the algorithm is not perfect (used to calculate bpm) but I'm sure you know that. It also may be the file type that has something to do with it. Hopefully someone else can reply with some more info.

@Justin > At the end of the day, we are relying on a specific algorithm to judge the BPM of a track and give us a particular answer. If you are analysing a track that was played live (outside of a studio where a constant BPM could be maintained through the use of software) then you should be fine - other wise you'll need to analyse in Dynamic Mode which accounts for fluctuations in BPM.

Same story with key detection software - you are relying on an algorithm to pick out a particular key in a track. Most people will probably maintain you should use your ears. I've done a lot of comparison between rekordbox and MiK (long established as probably the most reliable key detection software available) and the results have matched up in most cases.

Justin  >    The BPM will not be correct until the beat grid has been manually adjusted for each track.  That is actually the most basic purpose of the beat grid.  Another thing to keep in mind is that many dance tracks that should have constant BPM actually vary slightly from beginning to end.  It is very rare that I see a perfectly stable tempo on a track that needs no manual adjustments to the grid in Rekordbox.

As for the key question vs. MiK....  I was wondering this myself because I noticed that Rekordbox very often gets different key results.  I have done some testing on my own and decided that I trust Rekordbox well enough that I stopped using Mixed In Key.  I cannot say which is better, but I had enough success with tracks mixing well together using Rekordbox's key analysis alone that I'm satisfied.  But in all honestly, I still mix mostly by ear and don't always follow the Camelot system rules.
