great idea but how is this possible? How could you get the cdj's to read you software or have your software export to a drive readable by a CDJ Nexus?

[CLOSED] Alternative to Rekordbox - See description for more info
->>> Project will still go on despite thread closure - Visit dub dub dub dot justinjuneau dot com for updates!
Let me start off by saying, I am using my 15+ years in IT/Programming to create an alternative to Rekordbox. It seems the developer(s) for Rekordbox don't DJ and that's the first reason for starting this project. It's evident the developers of Rekordbox don't listen to our feature requests which is why I am creating this thread. Your comments and suggestions will fuel my new project and appease the vast majority of us who feel neglected and abandoned by Pioneer.
My career is in IT and I DJ as a hobby so this should blend together very well. (Take note when hiring future programmers Pioneer)
Please post your wants and needs in this thread and I will post status updates and links to the alpha/beta build releases here (assuming this thread doesn't get deleted).
I can nearly guarantee you that I will have something much more functional than the existing Rekordbox application before they release the next "major" update (prove me wrong Pioneer).
Again, please post your wants, needs, ideas, etc., here. I WILL listen and incorporate the features you suggest. Additionally, I will let you know if/why I can't implement something. Let the fun begin!

Simple (atleast for me it's simple) - I will be using my reverse-engineering skills and knowledge of assembly to decompile segments of code along with network packet (sniffing) tools to see how Rekordbox communicates with the players and how Rekordbox analyzes wav data, exports meta-data, etc.
I have wondered why something like this hasn't been done. To be honest I have looked, people come up with their own drivers for graphic cards etc. Not sure as this is beyond what I know and can do but I'm all for it! If Pioneer is going to refuse to change they are going to get passed by. Thank you Justin. It's probably a huge commitment and a lot of time. Put something good together and I will buy it, heck I would even buy RB if they gave us what we wanted.
Assuming the CDJ's don't have to be "Jailbroken" or "Rooted" (terminology for cell phone users), I envision this to be a pretty straight forward process. My first agenda is to create a stand alone app that can prepare mp3's/mp4's for use on the CDJ's (with WAV data, tagging, coloring, etc). The 2nd or 3rd phase of this project (depending on my testing) will tackle the challenge of using software to interface with the CDJ units.
awesome, good luck! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with
great! good luck , and keep us posted ;)
Sounds very interesting!!!!
@Justin > I admire you approach to over-coming frustrations and challenges and I wish you every success with what you are trying to do.
However, this is an official Pioneer forum and for that reason unofficial / unsupported / "hacker" apps cannot be discussed on these boards.
