File copy/sync from Rekordbox to USB drive takes extremely long time

Hi,

when moving music from my Rekordbox to a USB stick it takes forever. It is not about the performance of my hardware, as I can see that if I'm trying to copy a file from the same source HDD to the same USB stick, the speed is about 30-33MB/s. When Rekordbox copies files, the speed is barely more than 512kbit/s.

I know, Rekordbox needs to copy files into certain directories and needs to adjust xml files in order to define playlists etc for the player, but the methodology which is being taken here, simply is too slow.

I don't know what in particular is causing the slow performance, but the copy/sync performance for sure is pretty awful. Just a suggestion ... for the xml files it might be better to wipe and re-create them, rather than editing all on the stick.

I'm using Rekordbox3.1.0 on a MacBookPro 2.8GHz / 16GB RAM with Yosemite 10.10.1.

The USB Stick is a Kingston 64GB DataTraveler SE9 USB Flash Drive (USB 2.0).

It would be great if an upcoming release of Rekordbox could solve this issue, as I need to schedule at least an hour per sync.

Just copying / adding one more file to the stick takes at least 5 minutes. During a gig this is impossible. Yes, I could take my Laptop with me, but not all booth have enough space, nor a connection cable to connect my Laptop to the Network of the player.

Thanks for your help!

Have you tried a better, faster flash drive with better write speeds? some of the reviews on that stick complain about how slow it is, Kingston says the write speed is 15MB/s which is pretty slow in comparison to other drives that can write up to 165MB/s

I personally have no issues the the speed of RB, yes it is a tiny bit slower but of course it will be being for every 1 track that copies over, 5 files or so get created for it but I have copied hundreds of tracks in seconds from RB.

remember that copying just tracks in explorer or finder to a flash drive will always be faster being its doing 1 large chunk at a time, like 4MB files so it doesn't have to keep stopping/thinking as much each time a file is written, when you copy 100 track from RB to it, it now has to think and write 500 files/tracks/folders for just the 100 tracks, that a lot for a slow drive to handle

Hey,

Thanks for the suggestion! I've tried some other sticks as well, but most of them were a gift, so I don't know the manufacturer. Do you have a suggestion for a stick? I'll definitely give it a try. I did not realize the stick is causing the issue.

see if the mac can handle USB 3 USB, that would help dramatically

if you do not know you can click on the apple in the top left, about this mac, system report and looks at the USB area, you can see in the pic i attached mine is 3.0, see what yours is

SanDisk Extreme is the fastest and best choice if you go for a stick. If you wannt even faster speeds, you have to go for external ssd's, but it's also more expensive.

Seriously guys. I thought this cannot be true, but I've bought a SanDisk Extreme Stick. USB3.0. Just got it from Amazon. Plugged it in. Started Rekordbox. 100 files were just copied within 5 seconds. Amazing! This is really cool. Tonight I'm going to try how the stick works in my player.

Thanks again for the suggestion!
