Can I transfer all the data and playlists from my USB to a new rekordbox library???

I recently had an unfortunate event with my hard drive, it died on me. I was able to rescue most of my data, like mp3 files and etc.. However, programs and their settings were lost. Still, I have two USB drives with the latest version of my library, with all arranged playlist, hot cue banks, among other things.

My question is: is there any way to import all the old settings in my USB drives, to a new rekordbox library in my new computer? Basically, the inverse process of exporting your library and playlists top your USB device.

Note: I was using rekordbox 2 at the time my Hard Drive failed, dont know if it makes any difference in pointing that out...

Well, the good news is your music is intact. The bad news is there is no way to "restore" your library from an export device. If you had a main (internal) library copied somewhere, you would be in good shape.

As of rekordbox 3.2, you're able to actually store your library AND the database on the same drive, so if you're like me and keep your music on an external drive, you can store the database on the same drive and move it from computer to computer. Of course, it's still advised that you keep a backup of everything, but it makes it simple to maintain your music library if your computer's hard drive crashes.

In order to resurrect your music, you'll need to first install rekordbox on your computer (it can be the newest version; you won't have any info from your old library available), then bring all the recovered music into the library. It's a bit like starting from scratch.

Is there any plan to amend this in future updates? I'm in a very similar position to Luiz - it seems silly that I have my entire library on a USB pen with all cue points etc intact, but I can't retrieve this information?!

Hi! I'm having the same issue. My laptop died and all i have is the hard drive with all the playlists. It is now 2017, so i'm wondering if this now possible? Re-create my rekordbox library in the new laptop using the hard drive?

No, sorry - the only thing you can do is recover the music (re-import), but the playlists would have to be rebuilt by manually matching them.

Nope - unfortunately the export database can't be recovered back into an internal database. You'll lose everything except the audio.

I'm in a similar situation - despite copying db and files to a HDD when I switched laptops RB simply wouldn't locate the files. So I recreated my collection and lost my playlists.

This is a x-post question but may be useful to the OP: If a playlist is exported from a new RB install to a USB that has on it playlists from a previous RB install, will an RX read both sets of playlists?

I.e. do playlists from different installs need to be on different USBs to avoid confusion. That would be pretty annoying when there are 1000+ tunes organised in playlists on one stick, and only 15 new tunes on the other because it will mean stick switching while playing out; and if one of the sticks is recording ...

@Ged > Yes, if the original content is still on the drive, new content will coexist when exported to that same drive, although for simplicity's sake, I recommend connecting the existing drive, and opening the playlist to use that as a guide to rebuild your playlists anew, rather than leaving the old content forever.
