Importing back into Rekordbox from exported tracks

Here's my situation with Rekordbox (version 3.2.1). I have Rekordbox installed on two computers: main PC at home and a Mac at my studio space.

Workflow is like this:

  1. Export playlists and tracks to external HDD from my main collection. This is on my PC at home.

  2. On the Mac Rekordbox edit the tracks directly from the external HDD. Analyse tacks, set cue points and edit MP3tags. I do not import tracks into the Mac collection.

  3. Back at home plug in HDD and import these tracks back into my main collection.

Question is what is written to the main Rekordbox collection upon import? Just the cue points, hot cues and changed playlists? Or do the updated MP3 tags also import?

Also if I add a track to the Mac collection and export to the HDD, can this track be added to the main collection. From what I see this cannot be done, as the track does not exist in the main collection. It is missing from the main collection after import.

Hope this makes sense!

I don't suggest you use one drive to work between two rekordbox installations on different operating systems, but it sounds like you're just adding audio files to the drive on one machine and rekordbox on the other.

rekordbox itself doesn't add anything to the audio file (other than modifying the metadata). The playlist, waveform overviews, artwork, etc. are all stored in the database and accompanying folders.

Don't import/export to the same device, that will only create confusion and duplication.
