Ergo and VDJ Pro Issues

Hi.

I've just purchased the Ergo. I already have VDJ Pro. I installed VDJ LE. LE seems to work fine but Pro isn't picking up the controller. It comes up under sound card and i've applied the Ergo skin to Pro but when i try and use the controller nothing seems to work. When checking under mapping and scanning for new devices the Ergo does not show.

I am running a 2011 15" macbook pro with the latest version of Lion.

Thanks

Ari

@ Ari > Was it the window in my picture that you didn't find the ERGO?

What version of VDJ Pro are you using?

If LE seems to work fine, but Pro doesn't connect, you should try re-installing Pro and also re-attempt connection the ERGO to Pro within VDJ Pro.

I'm not a VDJ user, but I will download and install it if I have to. Let me know when you can.

Thanks,

Hi Foster.

I'm not sure which window yours is? I mean the mappers preference tab in VDJ doesn't show the Ergo as a device when i scan for it.

I've attached a ss of it.

Thanks

@ Ari > You can check the window I posted in the screen by going into your "Applications" folder, then "Utilities" folder and opening "Audio MIDI Setup". Once open, go to the top Apple bar and select the "Window" pane, and open "Show MIDI Window". When your ERGO is plugged in, you should see a box in there possibly titles "Pioneer DDJ-ERGO" or something similar.

Let me know if you see the ERGO in this window.

As long as the ERGO shows in this window, then it is connected to your computer and recognized. The problem would be with your VDJ Pro version, which may need to be re-installed or possibly just updated at the moment.

If you update VDJ Pro and it still doesn't locate your ERGO, you should download "AppZapper" (free version gives you 5 free zaps)  and completely remove your VDJ Pro version. Then re-install the program, update to the latest version and try again.

Let me know how things go and I'll try to get back to you.

I don't know all the specifics in VDJ as I don't use it, but these are the most basic instructions I can give without using the software myself.

Just double checking, but are you saying that the ERGO connects fine, but the only problem is that you can find the mapping file in the Pro version to get the functions working?

Thanks,

Foster

Foster, i went through your steps and yes the Ergo does show in the midi studio therefor it is being picked up by the computer. It works fine with VDJ LE, it's Pro i'm having issues with.

Pulse, i'm using 7.0.3.

I'll reinstall VDJ and see if that helps.

Upgraded and no luck. Tried the free Home edition and no luck. I'm puzzled.

I've used it on the PC with both LE and PRO installed (to different folders, but because they share the same common-files folder, the skins and mapping info is shared by both programs).  I'll give it a try on the Mac today to see what might be up, but I have a hunch it's going to work first time...

The macbook pro is completely up to date. All VDJ software is up to date. I updated the Firmwire of the controller. As i said, i'm puzzled.

To top it all off, the version of LE that was working with the controller is now not working. I've attached a ss.

Getting very annoyed with this £430 piece of kit.

@Ari > Is there any way you may have gone into some settings to try to get Pro to work and made a small change that has now effected LE?

As long as you follow all the steps to a tee you should have no problems. I've used the ERGO for a couple hours with no problems at all, and I believe Pulse has tried different software and has had no problems.

If it previously worked with LE then there must be something you've missed or didn't set properly to use Pro... that's the only thing I can really think of. It wouldn't just work for 1 version and not for another, unless it wasn't a legal version of the software perhaps.

Sorry man but unfortunately I don't have an ERGO to try and help out more.

Thanks Foster.

I haven't touched any settings. The only thing i've done is updated anything that needs to be updated, i.e.. vdj, lion os and the ergo to the latest firmwire. It was at least working on LE until today and now it keeps bringing up this error in sound card message. I don't tend to fiddle with settings i don't recognise and i went for the ergo due to it's apparent simplicity.

@Ari > If you don't have the ERGO connected and powered-on when you boot VDJ, it will give that error message.  Quitting the program and re-launching (or entering config and setting it again) will resolve the issue with the sound device config.

Ari-

I am having the same exact problem.. I just purchased my ergo less than a week ago. When i first installed LE everything worked fine.. then I switched to pro.. everything worked fine.. now for some reason neither of them works. Pro wont recognize the controller at all while LE still does - however when I load a track into LE it simply wont play. So now VDJ Pro wont recognize the controller at all and VDJ LE wont play songs.. i am EXTREMELY frustrated as this is supposed to be a plug and play out of the box controller.. what the F??! I don't want to have to migrate to something new but if this doesnt get figured out I will be returning the Ergo as well..

Any updates to a solution??

@Pulse> yes I have.. I have set up everything correctly and what's weird is that it worked originally with the LE software and is now not working at all.. I cant control VDJ Pro with the Ergo and with LE the controller seems to be recognized but for some reason the tracks wont play. Also - it seems like the levels are different for each channel.. with some songs playing at very low volume and some playing at higher volumes (which makes it impossible to mix)..

In addition to the VDJ issues - it seems like there is an issue with the sound card.. I have noticed other threads on here that discuss a "popping" sound that is heard when using the Ergo and I am experiencing similiar issues. At low volumes my speakers sound like they are blown (crackling/popping noise).. but this goes away when the volume is turned up (I assume just because the music is drowning out the crackling noise).

I plugged my ipod into the speakers and the music sounds great so it's not the speakers..

@David > Just so you know you're not alone and that you're not the first person to have these issues,. Others eventually got their ERGO to work properly with VDJ and other software. Make sure You have everything updated to the latest drivers and firmware, and double check the Pioneer support pages to confirm everything is up to date. Pulse's videos should provide you with everything correctly. If you are having issues, you should try uninstalling and re-installing all the necessary drivers and software.

For the popping noise it may be this - If you are running Mac OS X 10.6.8 or Lion, there are issues with the Apple Core Audio update and causes connected devices (such as the DJM-900, DJM-T1, and most likely others) to have issues with the audio and with recording. Pioneer is working with Apple on a fix and most likely will be implemented in the next updates available. Pioneer is not the only company to have this issue with the Apple update.

Thanks,

Foster

Thanks Foster.. I will AppZapp all versions of VDJ and re-install to see if that helps..

Just to be clear there are no firmware or drivers if you're using a mac.. correct? I put in the pioneer driver cd that came with the ergo and it was just a readme file.

I will try the remedies listed here and update this forum tonight with my results.. fingers crossed!

Actually no, I didn't get it to work with VDJ Pro in the end. I moved to Traktor

@David > There are no drivers for Mac, but there is still firmware for the DDJ-ERGO whether you use Mac or Windows.

Here is the page to the latest firmware: http://pioneer.jp/support/download/dj-e/ddj-ergo-v/

It says the change was only Traktor 2/Duo 2 support, but still good to always keep up to date.

Just follow Pulse's video step by step and things should go smoothly.

Sounds good and best of luck. :)

Please verify that the device name is still - PIONEER DDJ-ERGO  - when you show all the MIDI devices in the Audio/MIDI Setup utility of OSX.

If not, the rename the device to match -> PIONEER DDJ-ERGO

Then see if it is detected in VirtualDJ Pro.

Also, if you downloaded VirtualDJ Pro (v7.0.5b) BEFORE you purchased your controller - then you still need to download the current version in your Download Center from the VirtualDJ site.  It is still version 7.0.5b - but it now has the DDJ-ERGO included.

Hey guys, I was super excited to pick up my DDJ-ERGO today, but have to say I'm afraid I'm suffering problems out of the box. Running Virtual DJ Pro 7.0.5, ran through the easy setup, used the headphones output and the dual channel setting,  the computer recognizes the Ergo, I can get sound through my speakers, etc. I even updated the firmware first thing. My problem appears to be with the Ergo itself. While the light show comes up when I plug it in, once I load a song and hit play, the red lights do not rotate on the jog wheels, even though the song is playing on the computer. I've tried with pulse mode on and off, pressing play DOES activate the song on the laptop, but the lights don't spin (which, honestly was the reason for buying the Ergo over other controllers, flashiness!) This happens with both jog wheels. If I cue a song up using them, the red lights DO end up changing position, but still do not play. I left it sitting by itself at one point, and when I came back, the lights were spinning even though there was no song playing. My second issue is with the sound through the headphones. I DO get sound, however, even with the split channel option in VDJ, I hear both channels at the same time in the headset, no matter what I have the headphone cue buttons set to. If I have both cue buttons off, I can still hear both songs, if I press one cue button, that song is slightly louder than the other. Basically makes cueing anything impossible while something is playing. Really hoping this is just something simple that I can fix with a setting or a tweak of some sort, would hate to think that I laid out that much $$$ for something that's not even going to work out of the box.

Update, figured out the sound issue, had my settings wrong... that part is resolved, still not getting rotating lights when a song plays.... it DOES do all the loading sequence lighting, and effects work fine. If I leave it sitting by itself for several minutes, the lights will rotate as if a song is playing, even if it's not, and lights chase themselves around in a circular pattern in the hot cue and sample buttons. Really odd.
