Last night I went to the club and connected my DDJ-S1 xlr outputs directly into the powered mixer that is connected to the club speakers that they have and got a buzzing/humming noise whenever I had my DDJ-S1’s on and playing music. The more gain I used the more the buzzing/humming came though. Also in order to even hear the output from the DDJ-S1 I had to have the mixers volume all the way up. In order to get the signal LEDs to flash on the mixer I had to have the master volume on the DDJ-S1 near max.
I am using mogami gold balanced xlr to connect my DDJ-S1 to anything .
Here is the thing that I don’t get….…when I did my soundcheck at 9 I had my DDJ-S1 xlr outputs going into a EUROLIVE B1800D-Active 1400-Watt 18" PA Subwoofer With Built-In Stereo Crossover. The subs thru-outputs (full range of frequency) were connected to the powered mixer that that connect to the clubs speakers and it sounded as a club should sound. I had the mixers volume a little past half way and my DDJ-S1 volume at 10 o’clock and the sound was loud, crisp, and clean like a club should sound.
When I came back at ten turned my computer and was getting ready to play, but the sound was no longer loud and crisp. I was getting a low incoming sound/signal from the sub (just imagine if a 1400 watt sub was trying to whisper) and buzzing/humming from the speakers, I had to max the the volume on the mixer and my DDJ-S1 to the speakers to be loud enough for the club to hear. That’s when I started troubleshooting. When I turned the power "off" on the powered mixer(doing that turns off sound to the speakers) the booming bass from the sub would work as should but when I turned the the mixer’s power back on the sub would revert back to the low incoming sound/signal from the sub and the buzzing/humming be in the speaker. When the buzzing and humming was coming from the speaker you could still hear your mids and highs but the bass frequency would not come through. I couldn’t figure it out so I just bypassed the sub and went directly from DDJ-S1 to powered mixer and had to have the volume at max on the mixer. And if I wanted to get any signal indicator lights flashing on tthe mixer I had to have my DDJ-S1 almost at max. If the signal indicator lights were not flashing and off the only thing i could hear from the speakers was mids highs and buzzing. When they did light up the buzzing would go away and the club speakers play high mids and lows but the issue was intermittent and if I didn’t have my DDJ-S1 at almost max volume the lows would stop playing and the buzzing and humming would come back.
Can someone shed some light on what may have happened and why was it working perfectly for sound check then an hour later doing the above issues. What did I do wrong and what do I need to fix this? This club setup is plug and play just plug the output from your controller to the inputs on the sub and it works. The system is in 100% working condition for everyone else so I know it was an issue with my equipment but I don’t know what?
