FollowNew to Pioneer gear - a few S1 questions.
Ok, just so you know I've never really used a Pioneer CDJ. I've gone straight from vinyl/decks/mixer DJing (many years ago) to digital DJing, and by doing so kind of by-passed the whole CDJ era.
In the past couple of years since I got back into the DJ game I've owned a Vestax SPIN (for a year, just to test the water at a low price) and then, briefly, a Numark NS6 which was a much bigger investment. Both good units for their respective prices, however, I traded in the NS6 after a few months as I had platter performance problems whenever I took the unit to a new venue. I also realised (too late) that I really didn't need or want 4 deck functionality.
Which led me to the DDJS1. I was looking at the Vestax-380 too but it wasn't released at the time and I had a couple of gigs coming up fast, so pumped for the S1 based on Pioneer's market leading rep in the world of CDJs and the S1's obvious CDJ-like workflow and styling.
Overall I'm pretty happy with it so far and its been totally reliable at the two small gigs I've used it for, which the Numark wasn't! However I do have some questions about it that I'd love to get some guidance on. Sorry if they sound like Pioneer 'noob' questions...
Track start up from standing -
Has a delay. Its like the slowing down of a track when you stop it on a deck. I find this means I can't punch in my new track in time with my playing track unless its already playing (if that makes sense). Is this something that can be adjusted in a setting somewhere so I get instant start up of track from standing when I press PLAY or a HOT CUE? I had this feature on the SPIN and NS6 and would be gutted to have lost it now.
Moving my loops -
This was an awesome feature on the NS6. Once your loop is set you can move it left or right to a new point in the track. As far as I can see on the S1 that function doesn't exist. Again, gutted to lose it if so. Be great if there was a way to add in the future if possible!
Booth Out -
I've seen a post on this somewhere else but can't see it now. I know the S1 doesn't have dedicated Booth Out but I believe I can use the alternate Master Out RCA for this if I'm connected to the PA via XLR? But I take it that mean I have no volume control over the booth monitor speaker from the S1 itself? If so, is there a separate device I can use to manage the monitor volume? If I could get this sorted I'd probably by myself a monitor speaker for any gigs where I'm not in a good spot to hear true sound from the venue PA (as was the case last night!).
Hope those make sense. Look forward to your feedback Pioneer (or other forum members!).
Cheers, Mike

You need to adjust the 'vinyl speed adjust'
Turn it fully counter clockwise for instant starts and stops.
Theres a bug in the software which keeps the player in partial vinyl mode continuously.
As far as im aware you can only adjust In or Out points, not move the entire loop.
Booth out was forgotten about.
Basically to use the S1 in a professional environment you have to also by a pro mixer!
Sorry Im the only one who has come forward to say this, Im in the same boat after buying one of the bloody things!
If you want to have monitors, simply connect the output from the RCA's to the monitors, or if you want a volume control, there are $30 pad boxes with volume knobs for doing just that.
Hey Tom/Pulse
Appreciate the feedback. Had actually made sense of the vinyl speed adjust in the past few weeks since first posting. So thats been sorted.
Shame about the loop shift, but its not critical, was just a nice feature on the Numark that I'd got used to using.
Understand about the booth out, thanks for confirming tho. Will have a look for one of those vol control boxes for future gigs.
