@Mike > Can you narrow down when, in particular, this might have happened? Were you loading a particular audio or video file at the time?
At my gig last night my DDJ-SX suddenly stopped working. in the middle of a mix all controls on the SX stopped working but the songs still played and the software was still working, meaning the waveforms were still moving and the track time was still counting. I had to pull out the usb and power the unit off and back on. I was running video at the time and this happened about 3 hours into my night.
macbook pro 2.2ghz core i7, 4gb memory mac os x 10.6.8
Please Help!

I just looked over my playlist from that night and the 2 songs that I was in the middle of mixing were songs that I have mixed many times before, and I had mixed them using the SX the night before with no problem. Like I said there was no problem with the software, the SX's midi functions just locked up, even the lights on the SX froze up, but the songs kept playing.
It happened again at last nights gig, but only for about 10 seconds then everything started working again just fine for the rest of the night.
This issue also happened to me. Only difference was my computer(2011 MBP i7, 8gigs OS X Lion) went completely black. my monitor shut off, keyboard back lighting turned off, music stopped for a few seconds.. so I started pressing play on the SX and all of a sudden my screen came back on, music came back on, and then the volume jumped up very loud and stayed there.. I had to rush to shut off my speakers because I could not get the track to stop AND also moving all my volume faders down did nothing for me. After that I was able to exit Serato, but my SX was still frozen with all the channel 1 EQ lights on, and the rest of the lights where they were when the song stopped.
A few more details: Battery in MacBook was fully charged and it was plugged in, also I had just looked up a song about 40 seconds prior so there is no way it went to sleep. I was mixing for about 30-40 min before this happened to me. Prior to mixing I loaded a bunch of songs onto my MacBook from an external, then added them to Itunes, then loaded them into Serato when I opened that.
This has me very concerned.

Hi,
I have had exactly the same problem as DJ-Mike B-reul.
My DDJ-SX arrived this weekend and I was practicing on it this afternoon. After about an hour of DJing, the DDJ-SX controller froze.
I use a mac book pro with Serato DJ software. The software and the computer were both still working, but all of the controls for the "PC" channels on the controller froze.
The level meters for the channels froze (the lights remained on and static) and the volume controls and EQ for each channel did not respond. The big jog wheel and performance pads did not respond.
The music of the current track kept on playing.
I quickly hooked up by Denon SC3900 to one of the channels, played a CD and switched to "CD" mode on the DDJ-SX. The level meter for the channel started working! As did the EQs, etc. I tried switching back to "PC" mode on the channel and it went back to being frozen.
Interestingly, the master volume worked on both the "frozen" PC audio and the CD channel.
ATTEMPTS TO FIX
I thought that I would need a solution around this problem because it cannot happen in a gig!! I always bring my Denon SC3900 to wedding gigs with me in case the bride and groom bring a CD or USB stick with any special requests. So, I switched the channel back the "CD" mode and had music playing from the CD player. I then:
Test 1- disconnected the USB cable between the DDJ-SX and the Mac, waited for 10 seconds and reconnected. This did not fix the problem. The DDJ-SX was still frozen and the Serato DJ software said "controller not connected" (or similar wording).
Test 2 - close down Serato DJ software and then disconnect the USB cable between the DDJ-SX and the Mac, waited for 10 seconds, reloaded the Serato DJ software and then reattached the cable. This did not fix the problem. The DDJ-SX was still frozen and the Serato DJ software said "controller not connected" (or similar wording).
I did not want to turn the DDJ-SX off and then on again because this would mean that all my music would have to stop playing.
Unfortunately, I could not find a fix that would get around this problem.
SOLUTION
The only way I could find to make the controller work again was to stop my music, turn off the DDJ-SX and then turn it back on again. Everything worked again.
MY DEDUCTION
There is a fault in the DDJ-SX.
Please help!!!!!!!!
James
TESTRESULT:
the result of taking the "kernel buffer" in AUDIO OPTIONS for your controller from 3 up to 4 is half good and half bad.
I've tried it with my ddj wego and the wego is still trying to freeze but u can quickly push the START/STOP button to stop the playing deck and the wego will fix himself. just stop the deck that u hear in the headphones or that has made the error not the deck that comes thru your speakers ;)
in my mix i've tried one hour to provoke the freeze error and the wego tried 5 times to freeze. I started to push the Play/Pause button to stop the deck and the wego was fixing himself in about 2 - 6 seconds ....
this method still works for me about 3 days! ... :) hope this will help for your controller too!!!
good night :)
wego crashes again -.-'
now wego freezes within 5-10 minutes ... seems to be party?........... not!!!!!!
I got the same problem in a gig, and it caused a big headache.... the Pioneer stops responding, and the music keeps playing, without any control. That's a critical bug in ddd-sx that needs to be fixed.
@Vinicius > Have you been able to reproduce the error? Have you updated your software to the latest available version?
Hi @Gavin, im using with a retina macbook pro, everything updated. The firmware version of DDJ is 1.07. The error appear frequently after a hour using the equipment (it happened 2 times last week), the DDJ drops the connection and the serato keeps running, if i remove and replace the USB from computer the software get back to 01 disc mode. The only way to get DDJ working again is turning it off and on again.
I have had this problem on many occasions.... I got very worried as I could not figure it out. Was always so random. For a while I thought it happened when there was a fluctuation in the power... this is because coincidentally it always happened if someone was plugging or unplugging a phone charger or piece of equipment in around me.
I have now found that the problem is the usb port on the laptop. Sometimes if the cable comes loose or moves slightly in the wrong way the ddj-sx stops but the laptop appears to keep running.. The audio cuts and the ddj-sx stops responding. Only solution is to power off and on again and the track resumes.
For the last 6 months i have used electrical tape to keep the usb tight into the laptop port and this error has not occurred at all since!
Have you tried a different cable with a better connector? Also keeping the cable adhered to the laptop stand may be a good way of having it stay plugged in a bit better? Also has this happened since DJ 1.3, and through the updated versions???
I have the same issue. my ddj-sx will just stop working. everything else on the mac in sera to still runs but audio and control is gone. sometimes it happens multiple times in a night.
@Andrew > If you have tried swapping the USB cable and tried it with another computer yet still experience the same problems, you should send the SX for servicing - links are located to the right of this page.
This is still happening & we're in August 2017.. C'mon now :/
