Yep am reading and watching video on it,and they not good. If I was you hold off for a bit to see if they will fix the matter with a firmware update.

FollowConcerned about buying the SX.
I'm very concerned by the negative comments I've been reading from owners of the SX so far, mostly here and on the Serato forums. I sold my S1 a couple of weeks ago to fund a purchase of an SX and now I'm not sure if I want to risk buying one. There are a few issues of concern, but primarily it’s the platter responsiveness/lag problem which is the major concern.
I owned a NS6 for a bit and then sold it as I found the platters unreliable, especially when I moved the unit to new environments to play on. You had to calibrate the platters every time you used it but even then they played up for me, scratching wouldn’t work and the platters became useless for performance.
From what I hear, the SX has a similar issue but even worse it’s in general use not just when you move the unit around for gigs. Even the NS6 didn't suffer from that! I know people have suggested that sensitivity adjustments "help" but that sounds like a partial fix, not a reliable solution to get fully functioning platters that you don't have to worry about. I've also seen plenty fo people say its not helped much at all.
I’m no turntablist but I do use platters to cue and scratch a bit. If they are unreliable (or laggy) it would really affect the way I DJ. And anyway, if you’re paying top whack for a product you expect the thing to work without any critical failures!
Starting to seriously consider the VCI-380 instead. It’s a little cheaper and shares most (if not all) of the SX feature set. I've not heard many negatives either and 2 channels is fine for me. However I must admit the SX sounds better overall.
Any new SX owners got any advice or thoughts on their unit so far with respect to how bad the platter issue is?
I did hear that Pioneer might have to release a retooled version of the SX soon (and accept all returns on the current models) because of the mic quality issues - be good to hear something official about that from Pioneer.
I have a couple of gigs lined up pre-Christmas so need a new rig sooner rather than later. But I’m really worried about where to go next! Help.

funny, my friend who manages a local Guitar Center knows I am all over the nexus issues right now and he just sent me a video of a display they put up of the SX and issues the jog wheel has, they aren't happy either knowing they cannot sell these to customers now if the floor model wont even work, the left platter has no response when touching
Wow that's nuts! Maybe pioneer is losing its touch. Is pioneer dj coming to a end? Brichi you all over the post thread we really need to get the nexus fix man. Lol
Brichi which GC you went too?

LOL,, I know right?!?! i'm bored having no players to play with, once my 2 babies and wife fall asleep, I live on the forum, haha

Commack right off the L.I.E.
The platters are not laggy, and for those finding they're too sensitive, you have two direct access knobs on the front of the unit to adjust the capacitive levels... and yes, it is a variable based on the environment so you may have to adjust it when you move the unit to another location.
It's simply education. Have you ever driven a car with "launch control"? A dollar says you didn't do it right the first time you tried it.
Pulse, watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQvdXxfO84I
this is exactly what we are talking about, only on the left deck can you not get it right no matter how you adjust it, there is definitely something up and it's not user error, My friend at GC tried everything and the left platter only does not work in vinyl mode
Thanks for the post Pulse. I've been chatting to DJ Warehouse (in Aus) and they said they've had no issues with any SX units sold since they got 'em last week. I've just paid for mine and it'll be delivered later next week. Look forward to giving it a run out!
Understand that the platter sensitivity will need further adjustment when I move the unit. Hope that proves to be simple to fine tune, had terrible issues getting my NS6 platters to work properly when I used to move it around for gigs.
Cheers.
My unit is working perfectly since the firmware update.
Some people are confusing platter sensitivity with accurateness. You should start at the lowest point and turn the knob clock wise a tiny bit at a time and retest for your liking. If you turn the knob all the way clockwise the sensitivity is so strong that it can cause the platter to pick up close electrical currents and percieve them as your hand so it completely stops. Yes its that finely accurate and sensitive.
ALSO, these platters are NOT laggy. They are meant to behave just like vinyl so theres a vinyl behaviour at release of the platter. If you have the correct sensitivyt setting ( I use around 9 o'clock position) and you give the platter a very light and slight nudge before you release it (just like on real vinyl) there ZERO LAG. Also if you just use the trigger pads and PLAY/PAUSE and CUE buttons to start the track there is ZERO LAG.
The heavier your hand, the less sensitive your setting should be.
I have had all in one controller experience since day 1 starting with the American Audio VMS4.
Based on my experience the DDJ-SX is the best to date!!!
And speaking of "paying top whack",...really you think $999 is expensive four a four channel midi mixer made with Pioneer quality? You cant even get a stand alone newer generation Pioneer 4 channel midi mixer under $1000, not to mention that you have to purchase a Serato box with a stand alone mixer!!!!
Obviously youre doing your homework by reading, as you should but you only mentioned the negattive things which you are not sure may actually be user error, but you failed to mention the tons of praise evrywhere over the net about this unit.
My suggestion is if your LUCKY enough to get your hands on one of these sold out units, try it for yourself and draw your own conclusion. if youre not satisfied you have a few days to return it at the authorized retailer you purchased it from.
Dont cheat yourself of the joy of jumping on one of these, ITS THE BEST THERE IS, STARIGHT UP!!!
Oops I meant: STRAIGHT UP.
One more thing, because this unit behaves more closely to vinyl than any other static player i have used, you can actually ride the pitch slide but to a lesser more accurate way, like you would on a Technics turntable.
Thats not something i have been able to do any other static or spinning platter media controller.
Peace.
Well i would wait until the issues have been sorted out....This is what happened to my DDJSX:
Great to hear your positive feedback DJMe!
$1300 (AUS) may not be too much to you but its a big outlay for me. Fully agree its been competitively priced but I still expect reliability and high performance from Pioneer DJ gear whether its a CDJ2000 or a new SX.
I've seen heaps of positive feedback but its the negatives that jump out and concern you when you're about to make a purchase. Fingers crossed the early bad experiences were mainly people not setting their units up properly. I suspect I'm a little paranoid as I had platter issues with my NS6, which resulted in me seliing it!
My SX should arrive late next week. Hope to be posting equally positive feedback as you have after I've tried it out.
"$1300 (AUS) may not be too much to you but its a big outlay for me"
Youre right even $200 hurts the pocket book.
The thing is no company is perfect. You have to expect that inevitably there will be units that may be bad. I can understand your hesitation, trust me I have been a victim of falling for hype just to have a new expensive product let me down.
I really hope the best experience for you when you get it. Maybe you can wait till you feel more comfortable with the production of the controller.
If you get it, I hope you are as satisfied as I am.
I think dj pluse works for pioneer so don't expect him to say there's a problem. i have been on this forum since pioneer cdjs 500 came out and dj pulse has always been here. So i can understand why he can go to bat and not talk bad about pioneer, but this ddj sx problem is true here's my video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQvdXxfO84I. Its not no vinyl lag stuff cause i used vinyl and it don't behave like this. As u can see from my video it stops then go. i adjust sensor knob as far left as i can then vinyl mode wont respond to touch, if you turn knob sensor knob right it stops as soon as u touch it. There is no getting it right. so i thought ok maybe its a software problem (cause i am a firm believer in pioneer products i own quite a bit lol) but after watching tons of you tube video. i realized i have a bad unit and sent it back. So i would advise all of u that have any type of problems to send it back right away. Guitar center only allows 14 day return policy on dj equipment so don't get stuck with it. And if u haven't bought one u better wait to pioneer own up and handle this problem, cause right now there in denial lol. Serato is not taking the blame for this, They are saying its a hardware firmware issue. So i will wait on my back order second batch. Hopefully when i get it it will work, if not pioneer will be getting that back and i will continue to carry that heavy ass ns7 to club.
Pulse is a moderator as is Gavin and Foster and ME, moderate the site for Pioneer. Pulse and I are also Product Specialist and touring Demonstrators for Pioneer. That said I know the adjustments are there for you to set-up the platters the way you want, stopping is based on a stop/brake in the software. Is your unit defective, may be, and with in the warranty period you can either return it or have it repaired. Things do happen and some items can be damaged out of the box, it happens. Pioneer obviously makes great products that have earned their rep on being built well. There is no way they would knowingly release a new product with known issues, if there is a problem Pioneer will do all they can to fix it.
Pulse and I report back to Japan with concerns and or issues that YOU guys have with any product. I have already made my Emails to Japan about this thread and another one. Once I have an answer or a solution I will make sure to post it ASAP. I am sorry if the unit has caused anyone a problem and as I said I am personally Emailing your concerns/issues/bugs/ to Japan for review; it is the best solution for the time being that I can offer all of you.....
Jay
Got mine today! Played three hours straight with no adjustments to the settings and no firmware update AND.... it was pretty much flawless! Jogs went fine, worked for me without any tinkering. Didn't (and probably never will) use the mic so can't comment on the sound.
Only thing I sort of spotted was something happened to make my waveforms shrink and I could get them back up to full size. I also thought I could shift my loops left and right in teh track but couldn't do it myself (need to read the Serato DJ guide).
On the unit I did find the line faders very stiff, a couple more than the other two. This meant that subtle changes meant a big loss in volume up and down the line. Again, need to see if there's any way to get the stiffer ones working more fluidly.
Overall a very happy owner of a DDJ-SX. I'd say my previous fears have been put to bed after trying it. Keen to give it a real good run out now. First gig next Friday night!!!
I've rceived my unit yesterday, and I must confess that was a little worried because of all the stuff being discussed here. I've been a Denon user since the media player s5000. And as I'm not a big scratcher, I'm putting on sale my s3700 and x1700, as well as my SL3. No need for them.
This unit is wonderful...every button, knob, fader work as intended. even tried it with traktor and my Kontrol F1 and it's great!!! Rock Solid....so far.
Very recommended.......for the people considering buying, put in mind the only people with trouble post in here, the other thousands of units sold and NOT posting in here have no trouble.
You got me back Pio!!
thank u dj jay. Also as i have returned to unit after 3rd day. Do u have a ideal on whats the hold up on replacement units? [retailer] says may dec 1 why so long?
@Bishop > High demand.
