I have an intermittent fault with my left deck it plays fine for 30 mins or so then it fails to start, the play button is on in serato but it fails to play unless (and this is sometimes) i push the jog wheel. Frustratingly i have returned 2 laptops thinking it was a windows issue but now i have a macbook pro !!! I need a solution to this please.

This could be many different things , but we need to break it down step by step to see if its a user problem or a internal problem . So first things first . How long have you been using the controller and laptop . When did this all of a sudden start happening ? But this almost sounds like the External hard drive you maybe using . Could be going into standby mode , which can make your software freeze up . Can you try playing the songs directly from your laptop hard drive .,

Ive had the controller since the 1st of december and the problems started about 2 months ago, all my tunes are on my macbook and this happened within 30 mins of using the controller with this laptop. Also its always the left deck never the right deck when the problem occurs, i did change the usb lead and my thinking was the signal was being sent but not returning back to the controller is that how the controller works or am i on the wrong track ?

All the information from the Controller will go through the USB to the Software . Do you have another Controller you can setup ?  If not go down and rent one for the day , this will tell me right away if their is something wrong with the Controller . Also you made sure you Upgraded the Firmware correct ?

Why what else would be the problem as ive replaced the usb lead and three different laptops have been used, 2 windows and now 1 macbook pro, i had installed the firmware around 2 months ago as shown on youtube when the problems started  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVBzTTHrKOk. So what will hiring another controller prove apart from costing me more money ?

Maybe it's software related , Do you have Virtual DJ > ? If not go and download the Free Version and let me know how it works .  Other then that I can't think of anything else . You may need to send it out for repair . One other question , have you tried just running Serato without the controller hooked up . Does the software give you any problems ?

Im not being sarcastic here and i know your trying to help me with the issue but you do know its a serato controller and also you can only use one deck on serato when your controller is not hooked up ? I can remap my controller to their software but im not doing that just due to the issue i have, thanks for your help but for a second i thought you knew what you were talking about  No sorry i was being sarcastic !

Hey lee.

The DDJ-SX may have originally been designed and marketed to work with serato software but, there are over 5000 DDJ-SX owners using it with Virtual DJ.  An unofficial mapper was made for it back in November.  By the end of March, Virtual DJ supported the DDJ-SX natively with an official mapper also available.  It's unfortunate that you're having issues with your unit but Ryan was trying to help by giving you some options.  Oh.......btw, he does know what he's talking about!

Yeah ok ill admit i might have been a bit out of order of course he was just trying to help but serato without a controller only plays one deck so why would i use the software to check my problem ?  Im not away to hire a different controller because if it was the software then everyone would be having the same problem as i have tried this on 3 different laptops each time with a new install

I understand your point regarding using the software by itself.  I don't use serato but I'll take your word that only one deck available when a controller is not connected.  As you said, if it was a software issue, everyone would have the same problem.  Check the jog sensitivity for the deck that is giving you trouble.  The sensitivity knobs are on the front face of the unit towards the right.  The jog sensitivity knobs of my unit were at 12 oclock when I took it out of the box.  I have had the best sucess with my jogs set at the 12 oclock position thus far.  I had trouble with the right jog on my ddj-sx one night.  While the right side was playing, it would pause or glitch out some what on its own.  Moving the jog was the only way to get the song to keep playing.   I then noticed that the sensitivity knob was turned all the way the the right (clockwise).  It could have happened in transport or I could have moved it and forgotten to put oit back to the 12 oclock position. The platter was too sensitive thus causing the music to stop playing.  Once the knob was back at the 12 oclock position (indicated by the small arrow) all was well.

My sensitivity knobs were as far clockwise as possible i will try them at 12 o'clock, that seems like a solution that hopefully  works, only time will tell. The joys of intermittent faults ! Thank you.

Don't just set the sensitivity knob arbitrarily!

You should have the platter configured such that putting your hand on the jog STOPS the playback, but hovering your hand over the jog (NOT touching it), does not. The platters are capacitance-based and that means they could have a different setting for every person, even if that person is dehydrated or there is a change in atmospheric conditions (eg. thunderstorms). Check it every time you play, adjust if necessary.

I'm not sure that this is the problem @lee is having, but perhaps you could check and see if it happens with deck 3, not just deck 1.

Hi guys,

My mate has purchased the DDJ-SX which has replaced an earlier pioneer model. He is very happy with the functions and buttons. After using the DDJ for 2 weeks, this same problem has appeared. Just the Left deck with Serato DJ, and not playing until you push the jog wheel. Both sensitivity knobs were all the way clockwise. We will try adjusting them to 12 o'clock and if the problem still exists, we will update this thread to let those out there know that your not alone!

Thanks

Okay, the problem seems to be gone. I used the DDJ-SX on friday night in a pub/nightclub. The issue didn't even arise, however I never experienced the problem first hand. My mate, who owns the device and used it saturday night in the same location also had no problems. He originally experienced the troubles the week before. The only thing that was changed was the sensitivity knobs. Instead of having them full clockwise, we left them at about 1 oclock.

Im sure this would of solved the problem, if it arises again, I will update back on here.

Thanks

Adam
