DDJ SX2 - Unit turns off for no reason(I can see)

Hi all,

I received my new DDJ SX2 a few days ago, installed the firmware update 1.05, driver 1.002 and serato 1.7.3 and it worked fine for about four hours - then the unit stopped responding, sound cut out and all the lights went out, the track was still playing in serato though.

I turned the unit off and it wouldn't turn back on for a few hours and this now keeps happening, everything stops and I can't turn it back on.

My system specs are more than enough to cope, I have tried different power outlets, cables and USB ports.  I have re-installed all software and even tried older versions of the firmware but still nothing - When it does turn on now several lights on the right side now don't turn on as they should.

Anyone had similar trouble or an idea for a fix - would appreciate any help, can't contact Pioneer until Monday!

Thanks!

Shaun McDowall

I have the exact same issue. I purchased my new DDJ-SX2. After using it for an hour (with no problems), I was told to update the firmware. I got the instructions online, it was pretty straight forward and then the unit shut down after using it for 30 minutes. Here are the details of the problem.

  1. Running Serato with Windows 8

  2. Verified the firmware was updated to 1.05

  3. After the first shutdown, I attempt to switch the DDJ-SX2 on. It turned on but it shut off again after 5 seconds. I repeated this in between reseating the power plug and usb cable. Same result up to the point where none of the LEDs will light up.

  4. Serato will respond to the knobs and buttons from the controller which was strange. So there's still communication between the two devices (controller and pc). But will not play music.

  5. Tried reloading the firmware again. No luck. Older firmware doesn't help too.

It was very frustrating knowing its a brand new controller. I ended up exchanging for a new controller the following day. The firmware is on 1.04 . I am soooo hesitant to updating to the current firmware revision.

Pioneer Support - Is this a known issue with firmware revision 1.05? I am staying in 1.04 until the next firmware revision is available.

Please advise!

Thank you.

@Shaun > Sorry this topic was somehow missed, if you still require assistance, please post a reply and we'll help you out.

@Marl > The firmware wouldn't be the issue but stranger things have happened. You should update, given that there are only 2 users having complained of this issue, I would expect it's an isolated hardware failure in those units.

The 1.05 update featured support for Serato 1.7.2:

One of the pad modes [SAVED FLIP] is available during the DUAL DECK mode.

Serato Flip should be activated before using the [SAVED FLIP] function.

Please see  here for further details.

Please update the Serato DJ to version 1.7.2 or later so that the DUAL DECK mode can work as expected.

Hi,

I contacted Pioneer Technical Services and They told me that the warranty on my unit does not work in my country. I am worried

@Katisuska > If you're in Venezuela and purchased the unit in another country, that warranty may only be valid in the country of purchase (for example, I'm in Canada and if I purchase from the USA, my warranty is not valid for repair in Canada, I have to send it to the service shop in the USA for repairs under warranty).

Renato Borges from Brazil.

I'm having the same issue with my DDJ-SX2 controller.

It shuts down suddently, doesn't turn on for some minutes, but if i shake it gently or turn the controller in vertical and place it back again, it turns on. But after some use, it shuts down again.

I've tested the power supply using an multimeter and it shows no problem with the power supply. I've checked the cable also, the USB cables, EVERYTHING.

So there is no doubt: The issue is inside the controller.

Pioneer doesn't have any authorized technical service in my city. And the SX2 was purchased abroad, so no warranty.

Looks like both me and the venezuelan DJ have to solve this issue with our own hands.
So i ask you guys from Pioneer:
What can you tell us about this issue?
Maybe if you tell us something more specific about what can be happening, we can send some tech guy disassemble the unity and buy the spare part.

I need DJ gear i can rely on. I trust you guys from Pioneer to get it when i choose to buy Pioneer DJ gear.

@Renato > Sorry to hear that, it does sound like there may be a fault or loose connection.

Unfortunately nobody here is authorized to provide you with the technical information or instructions on disassembly, modification, or repair of your hardware. You'll have to try and find an authorized repair shop, or a shop competent in audio electronics repair.

Hello , I have exactly the same problem, no light will light up on the controller, being an electronic technician, I have already checked everything, the problem comes from the controller and this seems to be the case with several customers, you necessarily have feedback from unhappy customers ????
