[SOLVED] Why is the sound so low from my powered speakers? Can it be increased?

Thanks for answering my previous question. I now have my set up as follows: 2 RCA to 1/4 inch female adapters coming out of my DDJ-SB, each one is connected to a 1/4 inch to speakon cable that runs straight into my powered speakers.

The problem I have is the sound is extremely low even tho I have it turned up on my laptop and on the controller. Is this normal or is there a way to solve this and make it louder?

@Andy > There are a few gain stages you can adjust...

1) Within the software, depending on which you run, you will possibly have the ability to adjust the channel level / gain.

2) On the controller, the channel fader and crossfader should be full-open to the channel you're wanting to have at full-volume.

3) On the controller, you have the master output level.

4) The software may also have a master level control.

5) Your speaker will also have volume control, most only have a single level control but I've seen some with two (one for an input channel, one for the master output volume).

Check that everything south of the speaker are set properly. The other issue may be that your computer isn't providing enough USB power and the output levels are limited.

1) The gain is up to a high enough level on the software, +1.7 dB (preset value), (Traktor). Increasing this only slightly increases the volume.

2) The channel fader is fully up, the cross fader is 100% to the correct side.

3) The master level on the controller is at maximum.

4) The master level on the software is +0 dB, (preset value)  Increasing this only slightly increases the volume.

5) There is no volume control on the speakers themselves. (Thomann- the box CL 108)

It must be a power problem. If i connected the speakon cables to a mixer and then to my controller would this help?

@Andy > Thanks for posting the make and model of the speakers, as it allowed me to see that the problem is that you don't actually have powered speakers, they're passive and require an amplifier. The signal output from the SB is line level; you need to send your speakers an amplified signal.

The majority of amplifiers are two-channel, meaning you can run the outputs from your controller to the inputs, and run outputs from the amplifier to each channel. There are TONS of different models available, be sure to speak with someone who can match the best amp for your speakers so as to not over / under power them.
