iPod and iPhone use a different storage method (image class storage) than, say, an MP3 player or USB drive (mass storage). The players support mass storage only - no firmware update will allow the players to read from either device.
Some have successfully managed to use their iPod or iPhone with the CDJs but this involves jailbreaking.
