CD's, MP3. USB is distorted

I use 1 Macbook, 2 CDJ900s, with serato sl1. I used to use Serato for my vinyl Technic mk51200s, I basically un-connected the 2 technics and replaced the cdj900s to the same inputs in the interface, Serato works fine but when I try to use cds, usb all the music is distorted. Firmware is updated. Please help. First time user to Pioneer.

when using cdj's, you have to make sure the inputs are all set to "LINE" not "PHONO" in the serato screen and also all the outs from the serato SL1 have to be plugged into "LINE" ins on the mixer, it sounds like you are still plugged into phono inputs which is why it would distort so bad, you can't plug a cd line level player into a phono input on a mixer

ok , i unhooked the 2 lines from sl1 thru which were going into the phone 1 & 2 on the mixer. Now I only have the 2 cdjs going into the inputs on the sl1, then out into the line in of the mixer, getting no sound.

thats an issue, to utilize the SL1 all together between serato and cdj players, you need 4 LINE ins, you only have 2, the other 2 are phono which is fine for when you were using TT's

right now your only hope is to either buy (which is cheap), a couple of line to phone converters or simply switch the cables from the serato outs from the boxes line to thru if you need to play a cd, mp3, or anything from the cdj

I have 4 turntables but the 2 ch mixer , you already know, i want to eventually get a 4ch mixer so i can play all 4 together, does that mean i need a 4ch mixer with 4 line inputs and 2 phono for the vinyl turntables, or 6 line, 2 phono because my vinyl requires 2 line and 2 phone to work and if the cds require 4 line, then I guess i just answered my question. wow. I was looking into the pioneer djm800

actually maybe not, when i get the 4 ch mixer, i will only use the vinyl with serato, and the cdj's with cds, and usb. but for now I wanted to use all the features since i only can work with 2 tables for now.

the 800 would be fine, the 800 is equipped to handle 3 turntables and 4 lines so you can do

the wiring depends on what you plan on controlling serato with, assuming you will control via TT

channel 1 - cd player directly into mixer

channel 2 - cd player directly into mixer

channel 3 - phono because you are controlling serato via TT to and from the serato box

channel 4 - phono because you are controlling serato via TT to and from the serato box

4 turntables plus 2 cdj's? or 4 tables as in 2 turntables and 2 cdj's?

if you use 2 turntables (for serato) and 2 cdjs to play cd's and such, yes, the 800 can do this like I described a couple of threads up

you only need the phone ins on the mixer if you are actually playing a vinyl track correct? if you are just controlling serato via control signal vinyl, isn't the music from serato still coming out the "LINE" level part of the SL1, so you don't need phono ins anyway? I haven't used an sl1 in a very long time and forgot how they deal with vinyl outs, but I am pretty sure you only need phono on the mixer if you use the THRU puts on the SL1 to play a vinyl record and bypass serato.

Either way, the DJM800 can handle this. channel 3 and 4 can be for phono and lines all from the turntables and serato and channels 1 and 2 can be strictly for the 900's

no problem, as far as cdj's back and forth with serato, thats cake, run the rca's to sl1 and then to line ins on mixer and screw the THRU puts, if you want to play a cd, use the digital inputs on 3 and 4, this is less wiring and less you have to deal in serato, no hitting "thru" in the software, whatever is playing on the cd player will output digitally to channel 3 and 4 (or 1 and 2) whichever route you choose in wiring

keep in mind the 900's have 2 ways to output so it makes it easier for you, they have standard rca outs and then 1 digital out, all live at the same time, so again, run the rca's (red/white) to control serato and run the digital (orange) from the back of the cdj to the digital in on the 800

@William > Is your issue resolved? Don't have time right now to read the whole thread.

BriChi was great help, seems I need to buy a converter as my mixer only has 2 line and 2 phono, he told me i can't go back n forth between serato, CDs, and USB unless I have 4 line ins on the mixer or I need to buy a converter which is what I'll do for now.

however the bpm counter seems to be whacked. it takes my cdj900s a long time to calculate bpm. and when it does, it's incorrect, this is when I use cd and USB. I thought cd tables were more accurate than vinyl? should I post a new thread for this?

@William > Are you burning your CDs as CD-Audio or mp3 CDs? Also, when using USB, are you using Rekordbox?
