E-8709 Communication error

Hello, I will ask how do I resolve the error message to cdj 2000? ?

E - 8709 communication error . ( Start time when the voice of song saved into history , and especially when he starts looking through search ) I know that it does just the HDD . USB drives and SD cards play correctly . Consult me please what to do, certainly I'm not the only DJ to whom this exhibition.

I tried everything over the formatted hdd + new analized collection and subsequently export. I tried the HDD with its own power supply and power supply box to raise the hdd and did not help. Consult me please what I should do

Thank you Peter Pupak

@Peter > What make and model of HDD is it?  Have you tried a different USB cable with it?  What format is it and what tool did you format it with?

I tried everything over the other cables, I have it correctly formatted to FAT 32 as it should be. I use 2x HDD WD 500 gigabytes 32MB cache. Everything went correctly the whole one year and then it started to deteriorate. Error prints on both hdd

@Peter > Have you checked that the stand-by mode of the drive has been disabled?  WD has a utility to check the status and change the settings (if your drive supports it).

disk can not be set to any stand-by mode. With this disc I played one year and everything was fine, the last 2 month, writes error messages. When I play with a computer via a rekorbox this same drive so everything goes smoothly, just by their very involved in hdd cdj 2000 does not do well

Hi everybody!

I have a pair if cdj 2000, using with USB (WD ELEMENTS 500Gb). Both of them have 4.05 Fw on the cdj 2000.

I havn't use the recordbox (exporting files , making playlists) yet. But now I was in the mode, and i made it. It took about a week to select and analize and export the files. Now, there is 96 playlist and about 23000files on my hdd.

But now the HDD is slow. And if I am using the playlist mode or i am searching it stoppes working. And i got this error message E-8709 .

Previously i also was using Recordbox on my drive, but there was only a couple of music (5-10000), but there was no playlist. And it was good. There was also some times a problem, but such problem like this (the player freeze and stoppes making music)

What shall I do?

Leve and delete all of the RB files? Or I Do have to use not so much song? Or not so much playlists?

Or I have to update the firmware to 4.10?

Please answer me! Thank you in addition.

@Peter, when do you get that e-8709 error? I have 2 cdj2000(the very first ones) and I started to get that message right away when I turned on one of the players. I took it to a local trusted repair shop and they diagnosed the mainboard. Luckily for me they didnt charge me for the troubleshooting or replacing of the mainboard, but the mainboard cost me around USD400!!!

After that, the player worked fine and after some months, AGAIN!!! Turns out that it seems to be a factory defect for which Pioneer hasnt made any comments!

In youtube I found a method but I do not feel confident about doing it, but if it is like the previous time, Im stuck with another 400 replacement on the horizon, so I have nothing to lose

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gEzK1z6Yag

I also found another video where they say that if you leave the player on when you get the message for about 5-10mins, it will go away. I tried that, and it seemed to work so I didnt bother thinking about replacing the mainboard.

Now last night I hooked up my players to make a recording and did the wait and NOTHING!! And now BOTH players are giving me E-8709!!!

@Arthur > What kind of drive are you using, and what format is it in (FAT32 or HFS+)?

@Pulse, no drive at all, I simply turn on the players, get the pioneer logo and booths to the regular display and get WAIT flashing and the error message

E-8709 indicates the GUI CPU and MAIN CPU cannot communicate with each-other. It could be something as simple as a faulty connection or bad ribbon cable between them.

Given the number of units out there and how few have this problem, I'm hesitant to say it's a "factory defect."

My tech changed those ribbons also, nada.  2 mainboards cannot fail the same way in a short time!! And 2 different players!!!

They could if there was some kind of electrical issue... <speculation>
