[SOLVED] CDJ 900 with Traktor

Hi everyone, i’ve just created an account as i need some help!

Im looking to set up Traktor 2.0 using my cdj 900’s as HUD controllers, i have set it all up so that the players are both working as controllers but i am not able to get the sound to play through the mixer (djm 800).  I have used cdj aggregator and Mac’s Audio midi setup but cant seem to get audio.

Any help would be appreciated.

@James > Just to make sure you're aware that the DJM800 doesn't have a built-in audio interface so you'll have to set up the CDJ900's as the soundcards (via an aggregate) and then configure them within Traktor as the outputs for decks A and B.

@pulse i have used the pioneer aggregator and then configured in mac's audio midi app.  if you look at the pictures i have uploaded you can see the volume level on the cdj's is set at the lowest and it will not allow me to change it (i think this is the problem)?.

No, they appear with the volume slider set there because the volume level is not adjustable.  You should, on the aggregate device, click the RESAMPLE box on each of the players.

Have you set Traktor to EXTERNAL mixer?  Can you give us screen-grabs of the Traktor settings?  And use command-shift-4 instead of 3; it allows you to define the area you want to grab instead of that massive shot.  ;)

After selecting the resample box in audi midi settings everything seems to be working fine now.  Thanks for the help.

@Tom > Simply sounds like you haven't assigned the outputs for each of the decks (within the software).

Hi pulse,

I've attached screen grabs of my traktor audio setup and output routing along with my audio midi settings.

Any advice?  It's still all coming out of one line.

Thanks!

Well, for one, you're in internal mode -- so if you want to use an external mixer, you need to switch that.  Second, you have both decks A and B assigned to output on 2/3 of the rack; you need to set one of those pairs to 0/1, the other to 2/3.  ;)

Thanks again

How do I switch to external mode?  I thought I was in it? Is it possible to attach a screen grab?

Do I need to set up a new 0/1 rack on my audio midi for the outputs?  Again screen grabs would be amazing if possible.

Apologies for these basic questions, I'm a 100% traktor newbie!

@Tom > The internal/external option is on the MIXERS tab of the preferences.

No, you don't need to build a new rack - you already have them configured, except for the fact your deck A and deck B are both using 2 and 3.  Deck A Left should be 0, Deck A Right should be 1, Deck B Left should be 2 and Deck B Right should be 3.

Hey - I changed the mixer over, but don't get the 0 and 1 options, see attached.

What do I need to do?

Thanks again!

Yeah, it's just a naming thing - Front Left and Front Right would be the other two decks to configure.  ;)

Hi Pulse,

these day's I normally use a Pioneer DDj T1 but more and more clubs I'm turning up to have CDJ 900s. I've tried downloaded the drivers and plugging them into my traktor but so far I've only been able to get one playing through the mixer. Please can I get a step by step guide so I can get going wherever I turni up. I do have the additional leads... so it's a case of how I set up the decks and traktor to work together!

Thanks

@JJ > Here are some steps:

  1. 2 USB A to B cables

  2. If you don't have enough USB ports on your laptop you'll need a powered USB hub.

3a. If you are going to use your CDJ900 as the sound card then you will need to create an aggregate device if on a Mac. That's essentially telling the computer that both CDJs are one device with 4 Audio outs. There is a link on the Pioneer website for a program to automate this process for you. (3b. You'll need to download ASIO4ALL for Windows)

  1. Run Traktor

  2. Turn on Pioneer CDJ900, select advanced HID option by holding Menu button down. Scroll to HID on the decks and select Advanced HID

  3. Setup traktor to use CDJ as controllers, go to Audio set up in Traktor and choose the Aggregate Device you created as output (remember, ASIO if on Windows)

  4. Choose external mixing

Play!
