CDJ2000 - BPM Changing (CD Playing)

 Hi Everyone,

I'm using CDJ2000 - 2units and all firmware updated well.

I had some trouble with USB using (error messages came up sometimes while I played) so, I just tried to play with CDs

but just found out that one of my favorite track playing by CD, (I set the track BPM 123.00, MT on, +-6) the BPM went up to 124.00 and a while later dropped down to 122.5 in the middle of the track playing.. It's not only the screen shown, I tried to mix in with that part, it's absolutely BPM changing what my ears told.

Can anybody help this situation, I don't know what the wrong thing on it..

Will look forward to reading some good answers..

Thank you

David Park

A little confused - Are you saying that the track changed BPM? Or a CDJ read it as slower during the breakdown? Because the CDJ's analysis may not always be 100% accurate if you're not using RekordBox

@David > The display on the CDJ reads the BPM from the audio as it goes.  It tries to average a small portion to give a better representation than an "now" sample of the audio.  If the track isn't mastered properly, has a live drummer or changes tempo intentionally, the display on the CDJ will reflect this.  If you're used to tracks analysed with rekordbox, they will be much more accurate than an audio CD.

Thanks for the tips T-top and Pulse.

T-Top, It was Track Changed BPM in the middle of the track. I don't see the BPM in CDJ when I play, I only use my ears but as I wrote, I recognize that the track BPM changed in the middle of track running and a minute later it ran slower than that.

Pulse, I did understood and knew what you explained in detail and nicely. I could guess slightly this case is closed to a live drummer or changes tempo intentionally as what you said but I have been playing this CD over 6 years and it hasn't been in any BPM changes problems with CDJ1000s so far but currently only CDJ2000s are showing this.

I'm sure that Rekordbox is the option but as I wrote once above, I met some situation ' E-8302' in CDJ2000s with Harddrive using so, going back to play with my CDs until the better solution or any updates about that from Pioneer.

Then can you please let me know how I can play the CD with no BPM problem? Can I burn this track to CD through Rekordbox?

Thanks for your help so much.

David ,  you can't burn cds with recordbox data. You will have to use a usb or sd...

Rekordbox analyzed songs will display the BPM and Waveform directly when you load the song.

Thanks for your msg The one.

Of course I knew how it works about Rekodbox but as I mentioned I used harddrive through Rekordbox but I met the 'Error-8302' so, several tracks were not able to be played in my gig so, went back to play with CDs till the soulutions comes out about error but the one of my track cd shows another big question.

The reason why I asked 'can I burn this track to cd through Rekordbox?' was that I couldt get any proper answers from the helps above, they only say Rekordbox analyzing..

Um... Getting stress from CDJ2000s..

I would import the track to rekordbox and check the beatgrid, then export that to a flash drive.  If you had problems when using a hard drive, chances are the drive wasn't getting enough power or had power-conservation modes enabled.

I will add a + 1 to what Pulse said.

Import the track to Rekordbox, and then check the beatgrid.

I will tell you that some tracks do not have perfectly stable tempo throughout.  It is VERY common for a track to begin a certain BPM, and then gradually slow down by the end of that track.  (For example, BPM = 123 at the start of the track, but by the end it has slowed to 122.9 or 122.8.)  Normally this kind of slowdown will not affect mixing badly, but I see it happen a lot with the music I purchase.

No, the inbuilt player analysis of tracks is pretty useless. You'd think once you'd played a CD or a WAV file on the player it would store the tempo analysis it generates - it does store the file drawing , but not the tempo of the track. I also find the tempo fluctuates wildly as a CD plays. I've even played tracks with just a solid metronome click for 4 mins at 125.0 bpm and I saw the tempo range move between 124-126bpm. Obviously in the right area, but still pretty rubbish compared to a CDJ1000 which locks on within a few seconds and then stays locked. Honestly I expect better - it really isn't that hard to lock on to a solid 125.0 bpm loop and display that - other hardware players have been doing it for years, so the technology is there, it's just Pioneer's firmware isn't up to the job.

I miss my 1000mk3's for that exact reason ^

Otherwise I love the aspect of being able to virtually play from ANY source on the 2000's, the 1000's just seem like the best constructed turntable on the market, minus the lack of jogwheel and usb connectivity, I would still have my 1000's today if it were possible for me to.... :(
