Both decks freezing then crashing when using a USB stick linked with a LAN cable.

I recently bought some CDJ 900'S and on the third time of using them they crashed right in the middle of a mix!

I was using one USB stick and the Link option. I have read from other posts here and on other forums that this seems to be a common problem.

What causes this to happen? Could it be the USB stick? Or the Lan cable? Is it going to be fixed as I have 30 days from my retailer to take them back for a full refund? I bought them to use with a USB stick so to now find out that they crash when doing this really sucks!!

Is this why all the top DJ's that use these and the 2000's still use CD's? A known unstable fault?

Have you tried a different USB stick, did you format it, what file types are on the stick, have you exported the files from rekordbox, have you checked the files you are trying to load? Does it crash both CDJs if they're not linked?

Hi Redss,

I have tried different USB sticks and it has still crashed a few times. The sticks have been formatted the long way twice each before use. The files are MP3's exported from rekordbox. I have checked the files and they play fine from the same USB sticks and in their original form before being put into recordbox. I have not tried to use the CDJ's without them being linked as that is one of the reasons I bought them, I would also logically assume that if they are not linked only one could crash at the same time?

I would run your mp3's through a error checking program like MP3val for pc, the players can have a hard time playing mp3's with errors. Also make sure the players are running the latest firmware and RB is the latest
Give that ago and lets us know how you go.

I have run them through an error checker and all fine. And they have all played before on the same USB sticks and the same CDJ's without fault , this problem first happened on the third time of me using the CDJ's since brand new. The players are on the latest firmware version and RB is the latest as well.

I have done all the logical things but it seems to be the CDJ's with the fault.

Any other ideas?

Use 2 mem sticks and see if you can isolate the problem to a particular tune or deck?

I personally dont use link as imo it cant be trusted, it may look and sound great but has never been 110% perfect.

it is normally a content issue so checking content before storing is essential.

I have used my pair of CDJ 900's with one USB stick and link cable for over two years and hundreds of gigs with only one single hiccup. The reason? Bad file. Make sure you use a high quality fast USB device and a professional LAN cable and you should never experience any problems if your files are good.

Is the Lan cable that comes with the CDJ's good enough or should I get a better one?

What USB stick would you recommend?

check this post http://forums.pioneerdj.com/entries/20125727-mp3-tools-more and use the tool to check you files for errors I have files that play fine in Itunes, Traktor and RekordBox but won't play on the CDJ's. When I checked them that had some kind of issue. I use the stock LAN cables but there no harm in getting some others. I can't reccommend any particular USB stick, I use a cheap no name brand the works fine for me

I use Super Talent Pico USB sticks. They're tiny, shiny and fast. The LAN cable that comes with the decks is quite short so I got a high end longer one. No need to save a few cents there, just aim for a CAT6 from a well known brand.

Thank you all for your advice!

Hopefully after all of these measures all will be good!

Love the decks apart from this problem...
