Help CDJ Down! Power supply issue 120v to 240v

Hi guys,

I purchased my CdJ900's in the US and moved to New Zealand for a while, taking my CDJ's with me.

I purchased one of these:

http://www.dicksmith.co.nz/product/M1163/transformer-240v-115v-150va-step-down

Over the last 6 weeks I've turned them on a few times and sometimes they both work fine but other times one just wont turn on at all. Which freaks me out but..

It wont turn on again  until I let it sit for 1 hour then try again. When I attempt to turn it on and it doesn't work it makes a weird ticking sound so I quickly un plug it but it still ticks for like 20 seconds then fades out.

Pretty scary dealing with this expensive equipment like this but Im also getting frustrated that I cant use them.

I may know what the problem is  after writing out this post. But I wanna see what you guys say first.

Does the type of plug matter that you use? do I use the same one that came with the CDJ's or can I use another one to save me from using a plug adapter?

There is a voltage written on the female end of the cable.

Any electrical savvy guys out there????

Well, it should work with that transformer as the unit provides the correct step direction for your wall-power and the requirement of the CDJs.  It also has more than enough power (amperage).  The only thing I can think of is it may not be working properly or perhaps one of the CDJs was connected without the transformer?  It could simply be that the fuse in the faulty unit has blown and needs replacing.  There is an authorized repair provider in NZ, but I'm not sure how they'll feel about repairing an American unit.

Hey Pulse,

The thing is, the unit will turn on after one hour... so that should rule out the fuse.

It happens to either of the units too. Its not just a specific one. I think the one that I turn on last is the unit that has trouble sometimes . Had them both working together today and they ran fine.

Do you by chance know if one can  replace the PSU within the units to a 240v PSU or is it soldered to the board?

hmmmmm.

I wonder then if it's a problem with the transformer?  Have you tested it with a multimeter?

I'm not familiar with the PSU within the CDJs, but even if I were, I couldn't tell you how to change them.  Sorry!

Good call, I'm going to test the transformer as soon as I get a multimeter.

@JooshoEnsoo I get the feeling it was the transformers that were the issue since he never replied on this?
