@ kenfold - something to be remembered is that (in the uk anyway) a set of 1000's were the same price as a single cdj 2000, and ironically they didn't come half finished and have better build quality!

It could be seen that since firmware came on the scene it's started a trend of fixable later products whereas before that, products had to be up to scratch at the start as there was no opportunity to fix things

the cdj1000mk3 did at least 2 fw upgrades after they came out of the box for better disc readin, improved BPM reading and shocker, better MT fixes :)

Yeap, BriChi is correct. CDJ1000mk3 had more than two firmware updates with last one v2.30. That was 2009. You could update the firmware similar way as CDJ2000, with only difference you had to burn a CD with the firmware update. Also don't forget that CDJ1000mk3 was 1/3 cheaper than CDJ2000 and much better built quality. Now, because I used CDJ1000mk3, I can say for sure that I never had problems with burned CDs or MT. I decided to update in CDJ2000 cause of the USB stick and big colored screen. CDJ2000 was problematic from day one. And that is the truth.

So considering that last firmware was when cdj2000 got released, I would suggest we forget any firmware updates for our current CDJ2000mk1.

At the end of the day after 3 years I got used of my CDJ2000mk1s. I know the issues and how to avoid them.

Pioneer angered his customers.

On the one hand it's okay to developing new harware.

On the other side, however, only offer a few new features to the new hardware is a bad joke! Especially if there are few minor and partial functions which would also run on MK1 players (most/some of them).

insufficient resources of the CDJ-2000MK1 is implausible. This is merely a question of selling new hardware.

That would be okay for a few hundred $$$ items, but not in a 1000's of $$$ price range and not on that way.

With the introduction of the sync function, the CDJ-DJ is lifted to a Laptop-DJ - Doesn't matter, if you use the Sync-Funktion or not.

Now it won't be a difference between DJ'ing on a Console or on Pioneer-Decks.

Now, with CDJ-2000NSX, DJM, EFX and RekordBox (>6000€)  Pioneer has reached the levels of Software+Controller (max 1500€).

Updates Pioneer = 800-1000€. Update DJ-Software (Major Update!) = 79-150€

Therefore, the time has come to focus on a good software and controller. Thank God there's no club-standard, which must be followed :-)

Thanks Pioneer - You opend my eyes :-)

Next Year the story continues with a new DJM and EFX ;-)

Ok. I update my car for some money. Why pioneer don't do these for me. If pioneer do not want make update for free., lets make update with new functions for money. And people choose what they want.

P.s.: i buy smartphone with android 2.3 v. And updated to 4.0 v for free. And if i want aditional functions, i go to market and buy some app.

Pioneer do something!!!

It would just be nicer if pioneer were a little more transparent as a business as opposed to keeping people guessing all the time,

while im happy with the quicker hot cue loading - they still aint perfect... the track load / search works much faster too!

overall im happy that some of the basic stuff has been tweaked, only been waiting 3 years for these players to be where they should be - all things considered.

ok im gutted the screen didnt get a refresh - with wave display... but like i say, generally happy with the firmware update.

Pulse / Gavin, if these babies see any more updates (and goes for all other updates really)... make it plainly clear whats being updated.. for a moment there i had to double read that post, as it sounded like the 2000 mk1 was getting and upgrade in features...  but really it was just to enable nexus features when connected to the old 2000s ... was a tad confusing!

The new functions work only in combination with a cdj2000nexus???

With this firmware it is very obvious that pioneer wants to push us to buy a new nexus instead of giving a good support on the old 2000.

If it works in combination with a nexus why not allone???

I'm Pioneer-fan since 15 years (cdj100) and i allways bought the new stuff, but if you bring out a new pro player every 2 years its way to expensive to go with the times.

Remember that you became club standard with the cdj1000 BECAUSE you don't change the whole thing every two years.

This update is no support, it's like a middlefinger that you show to all the cdj2000 owners!!!

"Yeap now you are right. The info it is in the USB stick. At the end of the day Rekord Box is same for all cdj2000s. The thing is that Pioneer claims that cdj2000mk1 doesn't have the hardware to support these features."

If its like this the update is useful like an a**shole on the elbow. Fix the problem by taking the usb drive out of the mk1 and into the new nexus. = Easy!

I don't believe that it is a question of hardware. What hardware do they need to load in the hotcues??? - For minimum they can add a function by loading the hotcues seamless on the fly. - I had this problem years ago on my cdj1000 and now on the cdj2000 that I start a track forgetting to load the hotcues...

@Pionix > In short, no.

@Niels > This was an important update for users wanted to pair their CDJ2000s with their Nexuses.

@Dream Treez > Correct on your first point. No, there will be no sync-ability between the two decks.

@Xador > No, this is not the update "we've been talking about"

@BriChi > Speed is being addressed.

@Niels > The CDJ2000nexus can read the data from the USB stick connected in the CDJ2000 over link. So the CDJ2000 isn't being restricted in any way.

@Dream Treez > It wasn't that Pioneer wouldn't admit it, we couldn't understand exactly what was being reported to us. Fortunately, one user was able explain it with a recording and then Pioneer worked to resolve it.

@dtm > So what you are saying is, lets stop all innovation? There's nothing that necessitates someone to upgrade unless they wanted newer features that older hardware cannot support.

@Scott > No, there are no new features in this update for the CDJ2000.

@Sonare > Why are you disappointed? The CDJ2000 was never advertised as EVER having these features. Apart from bug fixes, surely any updates that have added features is a bonus since the CDJ2000 first firmware.

@Pionix > You know that we cannot comment....

@Sonare > Its disappointing you feel that way. Development and support continues for the CDJ2000.

@dtm > Not necessary, although I'll take a few spare dollars if you have 'em ;)

@EpikureeR > I'm sorry you feel that way - from a personal point of view, I'm working pretty hard with some of my colleagues for greater support / feedback and better ways of delivering information to our users.

@Kenfold > Thanks!

@Pionix > Honesty may be the best policy but it can also cause irreparable PR or damage competition / give a leg up to competitors.

@Matt > Don't worry, you'll be fully informed of any updates that may be in the future.

In closing let me say this (we always take the Apple example so lets run with it again).

Apple creates a newer product that has newer features than previous models. Leads to big sales, big revenues, big cash reserves. This affords the company the ability to rollout updates for previous models that can encompass some of the newer features. Having said that, the iPhone 5 camera is still infinitely better than the iPhone 3GS due to hardware limitations but its not possible to incorporate everything into prior models. Apply this to any product any company produces - their next product is always better than the previous one. If they could simply add all the features to the older model, they wouldn't generate revenues and the company would go belly-up - in which case, everyone loses.

Unfortunately, Pioneer isn't sitting on huge cash reserves like Apple. We wish we were. Like any other company greater sales means a company might be able to give greater support to previous models. Remember, this is a business. A business which has stakeholders and it needs to create a profit. So there is a certain balancing act between better profitability and delivering the best customer experience possible.

We are trying to deliver the best user experience possible. Before you respond to this, read it again and actually consider what I am saying.

We take EVERYTHING you say on board and we are very appreciative of your feedback although I completely understand how frustrating it can be at times.

Ok Gav, but when you want to keep your costumers you have to care about them.

I bet Pioneer is loosing a lot of people include me over the last 3-4 years. I mean, we have players for nearly 3 years which starting to work about a half year ago and still not perfect till now.

I have a mixer (DJM 2000) which is more than problematic after the last update nearly 1,5 year ago! I have spend time to do a list of all issues for both products (CDJ 2000 and DJM 2000) here in the forums, sent it to different people form pioneer EU, USA, Japan and Pioneer gives a ... about it. All for nothing!

And over all the lies about features of the DJM 2000 at the start which are not in it (think about 24 bit 4 channel 96 kHz). In official Pioneer videos Pioneer representers say it clearly, which where also posted on Pioneers Youtube channels.

Think about it Gav (for Pioneer), if you treat your costumers that way, you loose them! And believe it or not, around me are so many DJs who in fact of all this will never touch any Pioneer stuff.

@ gerd, you say that the CDJ1000 became the club standard because they didn't change it every two years. this is totally incorrect. the cdj1000 WAS changed every 2 - 3 years (mk 1, mk2, mk3). the cdj2000 is following the exact same product cycle and the nexus (essentially the mk2) was released almost 3 years after the mk1.

i would argue that this cycle of development and progress is exactly why pioneer cdjs remain the industry standard.

@ Phil,

CDJ 1000 MK1: CD-Player

CDJ 1000 MK2: mp3 support,

CDJ 1000 MK3: jogwheel adjustment.

=> These were very small upgrades and in fact they were hardware-upgrades. I had the MK1 (Im allways one of the first) and was very happy with them since last year. - And got good money after nearly 12 years by selling it second hand.

But now I think that you speed up this lifetime-circle that I get a very very bad feeling buying two players for 1900,- € each that are something for the trash in 2 years.

It's ok that you make a new model (version) with some new functions, but don't forget those who financed that product-development.

Do you think that I throw my cdj2000s to the trash now and buy some new 2000nexus only because I am pissed of that hot-cue loading thing? So your sales won't rise up that way you maybe think. The most of the 2000nexus buyers would buy a 2000mk1 if there was no nexus on the market. And if you give me a good support I will allways stay at pioneer. - Getting new customers is one thing, but holding the existing customers the other thing!

But by the way: Thank you for very good products!

i don't work for pioneer, gerd. i'm just a regular customer like you. glad you like your 2000's though.

the life cycle for the 2000 was virtually 3 years - that's not bad at all and it's not been sped up from the 1000 release schedule, it's just the same.

I have been one of the many who were patiently waiting for the 'fix' and disappointed big time.  I have money set aside for the upgrade BUT NO MORE.  I'm not throwing any more money onto Pioneer side.  I am done with Pioneer.

I'll still check this forum from time to time hoping against hope that one day, Pioneer may throw 'bones' onto my DJM/CDJ 2000s.  Or, may just sell them ...

@Gavin, you're right, the show must go on, this is business, and business sometimes gets ugly. You must develop new players and you need our help by doing that, so we give you an idea and you take it and make quite a lot of money from whatever we come up with. That''s the ugly part.

I have some really nice ideas i would love to share with you that would raise the cdj's one more step and make them even more versatile and user friendly.

However, im going to keep those ideas for myself, I rather die with that in my head than watching someone else make a profit from it while i have to pay for it. I could patent it and sell it but im just a dj and it would take up way to much of my time.

Firstly I wanna say that cdj1000mk1 was the first digital player (released 2001) that simulated a vinyl turntable and thats why It became club standard. Mk2 came after which again was CD Player only better jogwheel. Mk3 was in 2006 and it could play CD Recordable with mp3s. Also had jog adjust and better waveform.

I found it very attractive when you could be able to use cdjs, analogue turntables and a mixer combined with a sound card to control a dj program on a laptop.

Cdj2000 came out and cdj1000 discontinued. Fair enough cause cdj2000 had better, bigger screen, USB, Link, HID Mode comparing with cdj1000. However cdj1000 had better built quality and MT.

Cdj2000 nexus came after three years. During these 3 years service by Pioneer was bad since cdj2000 had a few problems. Comparing with cdj2000mk1, the nexus has same size screen only it includes a larger wave form in middle where artwork used to be. other than that it has Sync botton which you can find in all computer programs and slip mode which you can find in cdj900.

So after 3 years this is what you came up ?? Sync and large waveform ?? Sorry but since I got cdj2000mk1 I wont upgrade to nexus. These features and more are offered to me if I plug a computer. If I still had a cdj1000mk3 I would upgrade to cdj2000 nexus cause difference in technology is obvious. Same as if I had cdj1000mk1. I wouldn't upgrade to cdj1000mk2 cause not so much difference but I would upgrade to cdj1000mk3.

Cdj2000 was a good start after cdj1000. And you could develop it even more if you wanted. I expected next model to be higher technology, even better, bigger multi touch screen and higher staff that I wont discuss. You are the experts, you know better. But for me the nexus player is not the future player.

I've been through this with the CDJ 2000's so went out and bought 2 Nexus 2000's thinking they would have it right this time. WRONG.

These are worse than the CDJ 2000 Mk1's ever were! I can't even play a set without the players freezing!

On top of this I await a DJM 2000 update.

The more I think of all this the more stupid I feel for spending my hard earned money on Pioneer equipment.

I'm trying to sell my CDJ 2000's so I can afford the upgrade to Nexus, but from all of the valuable feedback here on the forum I'm having second thoughts now.  If Pioneer had clearly explained what the recent CDJ 2000 firmware included then I wouldn't have felt so bitter as I think the majority of us were expecting some of the Nexus's functionality, but it proved not so.

I'm just a bedroom DJ so freezes to me are not such an issue, but when you spend a lot of money on the best you quite rightly expect the best.

So for the time being, that's another £3K that Pioneer won't be seeing for a while.

When pioneer announced the nexus, there was an announcement saying that there would be a firmware update in October that would allow compatability between the mk1 and the nexus. No mention of new features.
What part wasn't clear to you Geoff?

Hi Phil,

The announcement reads "This update will make it possible to avoid certain feature restrictions when connecting the CDJ-2000nexus and CDJ-2000/CDJ-900 via LAN". It was not clear to me (or others for that matter) what these feature restrictions were? ... restrictions on the Nexus, or on the mk1?. There are several threads about this unclarity.

Perhaps I need to clarify myself a bit more - if you remove a restriction you allow 'whatever it is'' to do more. As the firmware was released for the mk1 perhaps you can now understand peoples expectations, and the disappointment that followed.

To remove a restriction that means it would have been added in the first place. Do you think pioneer had all these features in the mk1 lying dormant? It makes no sense. I just think it was some wishful thinking on a lot of mk1 owners behalf. Fair enough I suppose, we all live in hope in many ways but I thought it was pretty clear what this update was about.
I admit that pioneer should be clearer in their communications, I guess there's a bit of 'lost in translation' going on, there's some improvements in the firmwares for the 2000 & 900 that isn't in the notes and this should really be said as it might go some way to satisfying everyone that their players are still being improved.

Yes, we all have hopes. Personally I would of liked the ability to plug my ipad into the mk1 usb port so I could use it as a backup device. This can't be a hardware restriction and could of been incorporated in the new f/w in my opinion. Maybe in the next one eh? .. along with big waveforms, and ... hehe

As you say, there are some undocumented improvements - another communication breakdown!

So Gavin please tell me why my product (Nexus Cdj 2000s) is inferior to my previous Cdj 2000 mk1's?

When your ready feel free to read my posts on seperate threads...

Problem with new 4.20 firmware.

Just updated both my CDJ-2000's from 4.11 to 4.20.

I use a 16GB SD-HC card so that there is nothing sticking up out the top of the players.

This has always been fine. I actually have two cards and both having the same problem now.

On the player with the card, I can play just fine, but from the player on link, it displays "Now Loading" for several minutes and eventually shows the track.

But, it cant play it, just stutters, pauses, stops etc.... like no buffer or something.

It doesn't matter which player has the card and which one is on link.

Seams to be an SD only issue as USB sticks still work fine.

Come on Pioneer, WTF!!!

@> Pioneer:

If these functions work  in Cdj 2000 when 2000nexus is connected via LAN, They will work without connection with new nexus, and no new hardware need.
