This has been confirmed by folks at NI. they also do not see any reason the cdj2000 looping functionality with the (needle search loop size selector) could not be implemented other then it is not available to them in hid with the current firmware.

FollowWhy would pioneer remove features from the firmware?
I was tinkering with the hid controls sends in traktor to see what could be sent and in a previous version of the cdj firmware you could change the platter leds from white to red. In the current version you can not.
Why is pioneer is actively removing features that people could use in creative ways?

The platter illumination was originally set to show RED when software was controlling it but they changed it later to show ON-AIR status when connected to a LINK-enabled mixer such as the DJM900 or DJM2000.

"It used to work with a send value of 2 in the HID settings but they removed it from the firmware. SO currently there seems to be no way of turning the light red from Traktor."
the fact that it used to work and now does not has nothing to do with what Pioneer decided to do with "on air" status. it was available as a controllable function and is not any longer. I would just like to know why (I assume you dont have an answer) doors are being closed instead of opened for accessing features that the cdj is capable of, or was until recently.

As I said, the engineers decided to reserve the red jog illumination for ON-AIR status and not allow software to address it. Simple as that.
Oh, and it wasn't recently changed, this is a while back they made that modification.
Then I would like to submit a request to have this unmodified.
That won't happen -- note where I said above that it is reserved for on-air status.
Noted.
As a Nexus customer, I would still like to have my feature request forwarded whether it happens or not.
Product suggestion taken.....
No offence, but I think the engineers time would be better used fixing broke firmware like the nexus and djm 2000. Pioneer build quality, firmware and rb software are fast becoming an overpriced laughing stock.
It's sad to see an industry standard reputation being ripped to shreds, especially when I've used models since the cdj 100's, but times change. Maybe the slogan 'pioneer, nearly - but not quite' would be a more accurate strap line to sum up the top of the range overpriced half finished products
I find it odd that that someone is making a choice that is "reserving" a feature such as access to turn a light from white to red. it seems they might benefit from leaving access to many features like this open that way that can see how features are implemented buy creative people/programers. Have an open conversation about how people are using a simple thing like a light turning red and maybe integrating it into future products.
I think the whole IP we know best argument really falls apart. It is sad to see that pioneer a does not allow more flexibility for users to customize how there product functions.
I think I understand what you are saying and I also hate changes in my dj routine, it really annoying especially on these expensive equipments.
But I will be honest, this is does not look like an urgent matter unless there is a huge amount of complain about it.
By the time it gets resolved (if it ever does), you will have your eyes set on something new.
I would suggest learning the new setup and try and work with it as best as you can. :D
It's never been about allowing the user to customize the product. Besides some simple settings, there's virtually nothing about the player you CAN customize.
