Does it really make a difference if I use a Verbatim or a Taiyo Yuden Gold versus using a regular burnable disc I can get at Staples?

With lower quality CDs you are likely to end up with more "coasters". Better quality CDs are recognised to be better to burn to (more stable). You could very well find that the Staples CDs work just fine for you - it's a case of brand vs non-brand - would you use Heinz ketchup or Del Monte ketchup?

You're welcome. Thinking a little more about your question, if you are burning the CDs for your own use I'd spend a little more than store brand CDs. If you are burning CDs just to give out as promo items then you could go with the cheaper options.
