Upgrading from MEP7000, DDJ or CDJ2000NXS

Hi,

I'm after some advice - I have tried searching the forums for comments; but can't find anything similar.

Started working with pioneer kit years ago - 2xCDJ500s and a DJM500 (prior to this was bedroom/party on vinyl)

I moved to an MEP7000 with DJM5000 and this is pretty much my current setup... I don't really get on with the MEP7000 from a mixing prospective I don't like the smaller jog wheels. Technically I've been let down by crashes and a failing rotary selector. Practically I find my current setup awkward in a PROFLT770 case it's too heavy and difficult to move on my own. This limits the jobs I can take and amount of practice I get (well, still need to have a play).

It's now time for me to invest some money in refreshing my kit.

I would like 2xCDJ2000NXS and a DJM2000NXS - i've nearly clicked the buy button several times; but the various reports of glitches are putting me off at the moment - so i'm lurking in the background watching.

I also realise that for the cost of the above setup I could buy a brand new shiny AppleMac, Serrato or Traktor and controller - something i've never really bothered to consider/look into before.

I do miss working on the large platter with the MEP7000s and I dare say this is a big push back into the latest CDJ range. I worked with a set of CDJ1000MK3 in one of my venues and absolutely loved them.

I work with CD's and MP3's these days, can't justify vinyl anymore

Has anyone else moved from the MEP7000 down the DDJ or CDJ route? Any thougts / advice?

Thanks so much

Adam

Here's how I break it down in my own situation:

If its a mobile gig - lots of diverse genres / lots of requests - I use the DDJ-SX (I always carry back gear too, of course)

If its a club / bar gig - generally you can pre-plan your sets - I use the CDJs + DJM and rekordbox.

Which setup do I prefer? The CDJ + DJM a hundred times over. I like the feel and functionality, the greater creative 'feel', the ability to leave the laptop out of the setup and the fact that I'm not over reliant on any one piece of equipment. It is, of course, heavier to haul around this setup than a DDJ-SX and there are also many that would use this setup for mobile gigs - I'm just showing you my preference.

Ultimately, I would encourage you to demo the gear if you can before you buy at your local retailers or at an upcoming tradeshow that may be near you.

Hi Gavin,

Thanks for the quick response.

I've had a go on the cdj2000nexus (despite the store not being able to get them to work properly)

Going to sit this one out for a bit - but will update you on final decision.

Cheers
