[SOLVED] error 8307 with new hdd Wd Passport 500Gb

Hello,

If anybody can help me I would appreciate a lot. Recently I have purchased an external hdd (type: Wd Passport 500 GB, USB 3.0 / USB 2.0 compatible) and I have tried to format it in both operating systems (Windows and Mac OS / FAT 32 and Mac OS Journaled) and each time I plug it in a CDJ (both 2000's and 2000 Nexus) and this error was shown on the screen. The hdd works without any problems with computer/laptop but doesn't read the information on it while plugged in cd players mentioned above. Has anybody experienced same problem before. Is it a general compatibility problem or there is anything that I have to do to make it work. Any thoughts of other full compatible hdd are very welcomed. Thanks a lot!

@cdjadriano > Has this ever worked for you before? You should try a full format twice using a third party formatting utility (such as the HP Formatting Utility). Does the passport require external power or is it bus-powered?

@cdjadriano > Please report back how that worked for you. It may be that the drive does not receive enough power from the CDJ - I can't see anything on that page about power specifications however.

hi Gavin! now after i've format it FAT32 with the aplication from HP it does not show nothing on the CDJ when i conect it...not even the error 8307... but the power led from the hdd its On

verry strange, a friend of mine is using the same HDD but the 1Terra version and its working just fine .. but as you can see from the comments i'm not the only one with this problem for this model.

i will probably need to purchase a new HDD.

thanks.

Hi

I have the same problem with my Western Digital Passport 1T, can´t get it work with my 2000 Nexus players. I have formatted in 3rd party utility: EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition, FAT32. And i can fix the files in recordbox, send it to the harddrive but when i connect it all to my nexus CDJ i get the E-8307 USB Access Error.

@cdjadriano > I'd format it the second time and try again.

@Jonas > Do you get the error straight away once you connected it? Please try the HP formatting utility. Did it ever work before? Does it require AC power? If so, did you try connecting it?

@Benn > Please see above ^^

Hi,

Well... i have 1 WD elements that works, but the second WD elements wont work on my cdj-2000 nexus. Sooo weird, makes me crazy!

I really don't understand why de second HD won't work. I format it the same way as de first one.

Any ideas?

Regards!

@Benn > Can you try swapping the USB and power cable perhaps? Also, try formatting using the HP formatting utility instead.

@Gavin > Yes i get an error straight away when i connect the WD HD. I have tried the HP formatter but it does not work. It have never worked. It not require AC power. The power goes from the CDJ2000Nexus players.

@Gavin> The HP Format Utility works but when i connect the WD HD on the CDJNexus it fails, its like the wdhd is a unknown harddrive but when i do the same with a usb stick it goes smooth and fine.. no problem at all. I gave up to set the wdhd as a storage unit and i only use an USB stick (64gb)

@Jonas > I think it might be likely that the CDJ does not meet the power requirements of the drive for whatever reason. Does it have a two-headed USB adapter? Is there the option to connect an AC power cable?

@Gavin> There is no AC power cable, the wdhd takes the power from the CDJ and that is problebly the reason why it not work. And no, it not have two-headed USB adapter. Why does the CDJ2000Nexus not have 3.0 USB?... it is the future.

Ahhhh HAHHH!!! I Just figured it out!!!! No joke!!!

I have the same drive and it simply does not work with the supplied cable. I used the cable it came with and got the same error. I used my toshiba HDD and it worked. So naturally my first instinct in process of elimination................... YUPOO!!! The WD 500 GB My Passport DOES work with a different cable. Still the USB 3.0 (as in the extra prongs) just not the one supplied.

UPDATE:    The WD Passport (500GB) is now working with any & every cable. It seems that ever since I used the Toshiba they (and I say they because I have 6 500 GB wd's) all work. The 1TB's worked prior to the Toshiba. I never even thought to use the HDD's with the players though because of Rekordbox as I have two iphones and the macbook pro that I use for song preparation & loading.

As a side note: It can be understood and expected that there may be a little troubleshooting involved with the passport. This is a a $2000 machine being fueled by a $50 hard drive. The reason everyone here got one and I got six is because Best Buy has them for $60 & Walmart has them for $50!!! You get what you pay for.

@Jonas > The CDJnexus doesn't have a USB3.0 slot because it doesn't need one. USB2.0 is perfectly enough to transfer the amount of information the player needs to read from the hard drive in a given time slot.

@Deejay Dave > Great stuff, thanks for the update.
