Wonder would a few emails to watchdog ( BBC uk) on this issue force someone to come out and try to justify this poor state of affairs

[CLOSED] New firmware (1.13) is out now.
Anyone tried it yet? Ver.1.11 -> Ver.1.13 (17 June, 2013 Update) - Fixed an issue where the browse screen would become slow or stop when the unit is used for several hours. - Fixed an issue where the BACK button does not navigate to the browse screen when editing a playlist in rekordbox while the unit is connected to rekordbox via the Pro DJ Link. - Fixed a rare issue where playback from other media would not start, stop or be selected when a large USB device (e.g. 20,000 tracks) is disconnected. - Fixed an issue where the unit freezes when pressing the HOT CUE (REC/CALL) button for over 1 second during auto hot cue loading.

Watchdog? Surely that's a joke...
why do you think its a joke, I think its quite a good idea. If enough people wrote/emailed the show they might just take up the case .... or at least demand some answers from Pioneer.
If you bought a car and the electronic system failed to work as it was supposed to (most cars brains have software/firmware nowadays) you take it back and demand it be fixed, if they failed to fix it you would demand your money back.
Why is this so different?
for anyone in the uk (or abroad for that matter) here's the 'Send us your story' link
@Phil
The only joke around here is pioneer...
What other companies break their product with firmware updates regularly and take months to issue a fix?
It really comes across as if they don't have a clue
Look at today's ps3 firmware update from Sony that caused issues - I doubt that'll take months to be fixed. They've already admitted their error and are working on the fix ...
What got broken in the new firmware?
Guys I wouldn't get too caught up on that article... Companies report loses all the time.... But in reality they are doing just fine. The thing that we need to be worried about is when things like that are put our there. It normally means that the company is looking for a way to cut back the build cost... And that is where loss of "QUALITY" happens. Not sure they would be pumping out all these controllers as well if they were taking such a huge loss.
Its more a case of whats not fixed in the new firmware...
They've botched up several firmwares beforehand and not been able to issue quick fixes for errors they've created. I dont understand why people continue to defend this 'circus'. Take the sony example, other companies are on their mistakes asap... We've still not heard anything, about a fix for the master/slave issue that they created in 1.06 or 1.07.
Anyone can see the build quality of the new stuff is inferior to the cdj 1000/ djm 800
yes, this FW (so far) did not break anything, but it certainly did not fix everything, they are far from perfect
the latest sony firmware "bricks" the ps3 and sony immediately took it away...let's see if the next firmware 1.16 will brick our cdjs too LOL
I ain't defending anyone, just offering a sense of perspective to the thread that has been missing.
Pioneers lack of support is hardly a new thing though, its been a continuous tend over the last 5 years.
Look at the master tempo saga on the mk1 that started on their release in 2009. It dragged on, til eventually pioneer admitted it couldn't be properly fixed on the unit...
One of the Nexus big selling points is the whole sync thing. Now, whilst I am firmly against Sync, and have zero respect for DJ's that rely on it to 'pretend to be pro's' i'd imagine that a lot of the sales are to people who really want/need that feature. It doesn't work and hasn't been fixed/addressed despite several firmware updates. So for those people these units are NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE, and DO NOT WORK AS ADVERTISED. Just because a particular person doesn't use or need that feature doesn't make it an irrelevant problem. You wouldn't buy a brand new car, whose headlights didn't work, and not return it to be fixed just because you only drive during daylight hours.
Many other companies release updates for their products, updates that maybe make things worse, or create new problems and they withdraw the update or release a fix within days (sometimes hours) to correct the issues .... Apple, Microsoft and many many other companies. The fact that Pioneer leave things for months at a time is simply not good enough and quite frankly shows them to be a third rate company.
Sync works fine, you have to spend time getting the beatgrid bang on which isn't easy but when you get the hang of it, it works well.
lol, well thats not what numerous other people are saying, some problem with the master switching (i'm not talking about loops drifting)
It works far better in other softwares to be honest, without needing much, if any adjustment to get the beatgrids right.
The amount of time it would take to adjust the beatgrids of a large collection in rb (compared to traktor) the dj would be better to use that time to learn to mix manually
Just to add, I was a big critic of the sync function initially as paulm will testify but I found the problem to be difficulty in understanding the waveform in rekordbox.
Now I just analyse in traktor, transfer the extremely accurate beatgrids over to rekordbox using rekord buddy and you're good to go.
Hope early they can soon put another firmware update that fixes so many things. That's the only way. I don't bought this nexus to gave again to my shop. I only want to work them well. Is thah so difficult to understand?
So you analyse the tracks in both softwares? then transfer the traktor data over through rekordbuddy.
Do you find its accurate in rb? The early releases i seen the beatgrids worked in tractor fine, but weren't the best in rekordbox when transferred in
watchdog it is then
@ Phil well lucky for you then Phil that you're on a mac, those on PC's don't have that option. And are you really happy that you have to use a rival's program to get your £1600 decks working how you like them? lol its that sort of attitude that lets Pioneer off the hook.
mr green, i think you misunderstand the problem that people are discussing, the master switching issue has nothing to do with the sync functionality at all, in fact the master switching actually works as it should with sync ON. to come out with a load of spiel that the decks aren't fit for purpose because sync doesn't work is just plain wrong, you got the wrong end of the stick i think.
to your second point, no, i'd much prefer rekordbox to be better at analysing beatgrids. i've been vocal on the rekordbox forum (which this subject relates to, not the cdj firmware issues) about making this much better, i'm not sure i'm letting anyone 'off the hook'.
the sync function works, the master/slave bug is annoying but it does not prevent you to use the sync, you just have to switch manually the deck from master to slave after mixing out a track. the bug disturbs you also when you want to use the key suggestions, again if you don't switch from master to slave you will get the wrong tracks with the wrong keys. i don't use the autosync but i rely often on the key detection and this bug annoys me a lot.
the precision of the sync depends on the precision of the beatgrid. i have also traktor and in my opinion traktor does a much better auto beatgridding than rekordbox. on the other hand i find much easier to correct a wrong beatgrid in rb than in traktor.
rekordbuddy for syncing traktor and rb...i have used it once but meh...it worked pretty badly for me, i'll not use it again.
@phil, as far as i can read on the forum the last firmware update didn't bring new bugs (...let's wait a few days for a definitive judgement...) but failed to correct the master/slave bugs and some others. the 1.10 brought the master/slave bug and the new rekordbox 2.0.7. is giving headaches to many people, so in general we are right to complain about the whole thing and we should be even more loud and aggressive given the many problems that are still there, the general slowness in fixing them and the stubborn refusal by pioneer to let us roll back to earlier versions of firmware and rekordbox. this is a huge letdown for a professional grade product such as the nexus and a huge fail in public relations. take sony as example: their last firmware bricks the ps3 and they immediately retired it within a few hours. after the huge network outage of 2011 they offered compensations in different forms to the customers and so on. and that is just a video game, not a mission critical device on which a club must rely 100% to keep a few hundreds (or even a few thousands customers) happy dancing and spending money at the bar for several hours every day.
The market has a lot of inertia because of the leading position of this company, the old cdj2000 is the de-facto standard in clubs, but since it's not available anymore pioneer has a very small time frame to fix the nexus firmware. for a few months the market will keep absorbing the old non nexus but when they're finished? the big djs dont want them because they (and we) know they are not reliable....either pioneer fixes the firmware or it will lose the market to the competition.
Its not just 1 problem people have phil... As far as i can see Mr green is bang on the multiple issues being discussed
@cdjbasile, it works really well. you import tracks first into traktor and just analyse them for the beatgrids. you sync the collections in rekord buddy and then import them into rekordbox. rekordbox then analyses them for the waveform (but doesn't touch the beatgrids).
the info is identical in rekordbox as it is in traktor, no difference. i found i had to adjust about 60-70% of my tracks in rekordbox, it took ages and even then some beatgrids were a bit off (due to user error). using rekord buddy i find that i have to adjust less than 5% and usually it is just a click needed to shift the grid onto the correct downbeat. once you get your head around how it works, it's actually a much quicker and more accurate way of prepping your tracks...
What part stops rekordbox from adjusting the beatgrid as part of its nalysing process?
well said julia, i don't disagree with you...
maybe give rekord buddy another try, it's had a few updates recently. i can't comment on the older versions as i didn't use them. didier, who created the software, is a regular on here - maybe see if he can fix your issue?
my experience with rekordbuddy: i imported around 300 hundred tracks from tktor to rb and most of the beatgrids where wrong in rb (even though they were perfect in trktr) and i had to check them manually, all of them. the other way around rb->trktr is not doable because of trktr. no thank you. never again. i prefer to import my new tracks twice in rb and trktr, and i have to check them against the metronome only in rb, traktor gets them almost always right.
