XDJ-RX freezing!

So last weekend I was using the XDJ-RX at a private party. Everything went fine until I was browsing through a playlist. Suddendly the whole thing froze and I had to turn it off and on in order to make it work again. It happened a couple of times during the evening which was really upsetting. Luckily it was just a private party.

So the next day I was trying to figure out what was wrong. I found out that it only happened while browsing through a specific playlist and I could finally locate the track which caused the problem. I thought that maybe the file is corrupt or the USB-Stick is having a problem, so I connected the XDJ directly to my RekordBox via the LAN cable. Here it worked, so I tried again using the USB-Stick and it froze again.

Then I used the sync manager, deleted that playlist and rewrote it back on the stick. Now it worked without crashing.

So I can only assume that during the first syncing, rekordbox failed to write that file properly onto the stick. The XDJ really should recognise broken files and prevent freezing. I have the latest Firmware installed (1.30)

@Voke > Sorry to hear about the problem, but it's great you were able to narrow it down with some troubleshooting. Can you send over a copy of the track that had a problem so engineers can investigate? If you have the problem again, before you overwrite the export database on the USB device, that might also be of interest.

Yes, will do that. Where exactly shall I send the track to? Though I'm hoping not to encounter that problem again ;)

You can post a reply here with an attachment, or upload the file to a sharing tool such as Dropbox.

I'm having similar 'freezing' problem, though a bit different in symptoms.  I don't know how to start a new thread, so hope you can help me on this one.

Got the xdj-rx out of the box, connected, not yet updated firmware, all was working well with macbook pro installed drivers.  The only thing was I left the xdi unused for an hour so it went into standby mode.  Pressing the wake up button didn't do anything...  Tried pressing a few other buttons to wake it up, nothing. Pressing power button on and off left it in stand-by mode flickering the red led light...  The only thing I could do wast pull out the plug and wait for the red light to go  off (after 20 sec) and plug in again.

Didn't worry me too much, but then when restarting and playing, the xdj just switches to stand-by mode after 3-5mins.  For no reason, as I'm playing and connected with laptop.  In manual says, it shouldn't go in standby if laptop is connected etc...

Furthermore I tried updating the firmware with FAT32 formatted usb, version 1.5, but once the screen says 'plug in usb to usb1' it doesn't initialize the update, just keeps waiting, and goes back into standby mode...

playing with laptop or USB has same effect.

Even turned off the standby mode in the utility settings, but still going to standby.

I really hope you have something to help me on this.  I use this gear for professional events, and need it up and running in days.

Thanks

Question: Does it work ONLY WITH REKORDBOX?

If YES, where is written?

I usually work in privates party and it happens several times that someone gives to me usb devices to play, so I decided to buy XDJ RX. I'm very disappointed.

You can watch these video and you can see how it crashes:

It is very strange, but why is the song looks  without wave form? Are the songs analyzed in record box?

@Angelo This is exactly the same that happened to me. As you can see, it's always when this one specific track shows up on the display. Strange thing was, that I opened the file via winamp and it could be played without problems. After deleting and re-exporting the playlist the error went away. But I can't always check all of the playlists after exporting to see if there is a file that will crash the RX. The RX should ignore the broken file.

@Voke May be a software update should solve this problem.

Since the RX is still a new product, I',m confident the engineers will find a solution. Because, in my opinion, the whole thing freezing is the worst thing that could happen. I'd rather just have the message that a file could not be played.

Another problem to solve is when you are playing deck A and accidentally assign another song to deck a, it should alert you that deck A is still playing!

@jorn > Please start a new topic with that information and I'll be happy to assist you with the standby mode and firmware updates. Having you posting in this thread with new problems only leads to confusion when trying to address the previous users' problems.

@Angelo > The engineers will be working to implement a "load lock" for active decks in a future firmware, that has already been discussed. As for the ability to play non-rekordbox tracks, yes it does support unanalysed sources however there is no guarantee of performance from them.

@All > Regarding the freezing or crashing, the first thing we recommend you try is to REFORMAT your USB device and then re-export your rekordbox library or playlists.

I usually play in private parties and I bought the RX even  as it is equipped with two USB inputs, but I can not risk that it crashes  due to a file not processed through rekordbox.

@Angelo > You can play other sources, but the performance is not guaranteed. Engineers are working to improve the performance to ensure the unit does not freeze, however I would recommend you do not play unfamiliar sources simply for the unknown quality of the tracks provided and the risk of someone potentially handing you a USB drive that damages your equipment.

Like this.

It would be great if Rekordbox has feature to verify prepared usb stick.

That wouldn't help if a user brought their USB drive which hadn't been prepared by rekordbox.

I´ve got same Problem. Houseparty... And my XDj RX crashes with a short beep noice. (Firmware 1.6). That only happens when i browse throu my tracks and if i sort them after BPM (it shows you if the key fits to track on masterdeck (i really love this feature)) or key. I own all my music and there were no issues on CDjs (i ve been playing on nearly every pioneer gear). The interesting thing is, that this only happens with specific tracks. So i´ll pick them out and tray again. I would say, that it is only a softwareproblem. I always trusted on Pioneer gear and had no Problems so far.
I can send you the tracks wich cause this problems if you wish.
If i you could fix that, that would be great!

Edit: Now it happens random too. And by browsing over the "bad tracks" it crashes if they are sorted by any kind of heading.

@Angelo > I´ve got same problem (firmware 1.80). Solution is to change / remove the tags of "bad" mp3 file.

@Pioneer > In my opinion XDJ RX is an advanced device . It should work well even when not using rekordbox . Can we hope that in the future these problems disappear ?
I have a file that causes the XDJ RX to crash. I can send it to you .

Sorry for my english ( google translator ) .
