XDJ RX - Folders on a FAT 32 Hard Drive

Hello - 2 questions (XDJ-RX)
I have a FAT32 hard drive with my tracks on there. 16000 ish - I have them all seperated into genre/folder order, they are all rips from original CD's of many many years of DJing - All ripped between 256 and 320 kbps. All ID3 Tags removed, and used MP3 Tag to recreate Tags in a uniform order. When I plugged into the RX - Some folders wouldn't read with over 999 files in the folder, so those folders, I seperated into extra folders containing less than 1000 each. Now the extra folders I made, are there, but the content is missing. Any reason for this? (the content is there when i plug HD into computer) It seems to read everything else bar these folders that I made as 'overflow' (just extra folders essentially) I'm not overly fussed whether I have all the extra features that I didn't have since I changed from straight CD use. So just running straight from Hard drive suits me. I'm a mobile DJ, so carrying that volume is necessary.
2 - If I opt to use rekordbox - as has been suggested, can I just analyse from the source hard drive? Will it save the extra data on the source drive? or does the music need to be on my computer hard drive instead of the External. Its frustrating.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

1) You do need to have fewer than 1000 files per folder, it may simply take longer to show as it tries to read / index the files in that folder.

2) If you do use rekordbox, you will need to use two drives if your one drive isn't large enough to host double the current capacity of files (eg. if you have 1TB of music on a 2TB drive, you don't have a lot of room to grow so I don't suggest it.) Even if you did use two drives, your 16,000 collection is larger than the max of 10,000 for the RX.

  1. there is a 10k track limit total so that may be causing some of the issues

  2. I believe you can select that the database management in the settings to the external so when you import the files into RB, it knows when exporting that the files are on the drive already

@roydon > Sounds like there's something funky going on - I would suggest formatting that export drive and re-exporting the songs and playlists.
