Controlling RkdBx4 via CDJ2000NXS and accessing music from laptop

Help with connecting Rekordbox4 AND RekordboxDJ with my laptop.

I have a (non-Mac) laptop with Rekordbox4 and the add-on Rekordbox DJ.

A simple couple of requests ...(1) I want to access my prepared music on my laptop from the CDJ2000Nexus (2) I want to make use of the 4 decks the samples and all the extras on the new Rekordbox DJ.

A previous post said "When you use "Export" mode connect via LAN cable, USB cables are not supported.  When you use "Performance" mode connect via USB cable, LAN cables are not supported."

So, starting with "Performance" mode. I have connected the two CDJNexus to two spare USB ports on my laptop. I have chosen LINK and then selected deck 1 for CDJ1 and deck 2 for CDJ2 (all good so far)

I can control RekordboxDeck1 with CDJ1 and RekordboxDeck2 with CDJ2.

But when going to Preferences>Audio I can select EITHER "Speakers (PIONEER CDJ-2000nexus)" or "Speakers (2 - PIONEER CDJ-2000nexus)" meaning that although I can CONTROL the tracks but the audio/sound is only output merged via EITHER CDJ1 or CDJ2. When I try to adjust the mixer sliders in Rekordbox DJ I get the warning message "Invalid Operation. Use connected DJ mixer/controller in External Mixer mode."

I want to physically use CDJ1 and CDJ2 but have access to huge database of prepared music on my laptop ... plus be able to access Deck3 and Deck4 for additional mixing and access the Samples and effects in the Rekordbox DJ ... what am I doing wrong ?

Secondly i have a TP-Link "sf1005d" 5 port 10/100Mbps Unmanaged Desktop Switch to which I have connected my laptop and the two CDJ with standard ethernet cables. I have changed the mode to "Export" and nothing ... nothing registers. I have clicked 'Link' on both CDJ and "Rekordbox" on both but nothing. Nothing registers on Rekordbox DJ software ... just Nothing.

Help ! What am I doing wrong ?

Finally - what is the Rekordbox button on the CDJ-2000nexus for ?

Hey,

to help you with the Output, you need a tool called CDJ-2000NXS AGGREGATOR TOOL which can be found here: http://www.pioneerdj.com/en/support/software/cdj-2000nxs/

to answer all the other questions, I would recommend to watch some Youtube CDJ 2000 Nexus Link Tutorials which will guide you through the setup and show how the Rekordbox Link System works.

If I link my 2 CDJs with RB Software in Export Mode, I can choose Rekordbox as Sound Source on the CDJs and browse through the Playlists which I have prepared before on the Rekordbox Software. You have to choose the Rekordbox Button on the CDJ to get access to the RB library. After Link is established, choose source Rekordbox on both CDJs, so you can browse the RB library from your laptop on both CDJs.

Hope that was some kind of helpful.

Hi Daniel, I will try that and get back to you tomorrow ... I thought that the Aggregator tool was for Mac ... I am using a Windows (Win10) laptop.

I have hunted around for tutorials and not found anything useful - do you have any suggestions ?

Regarding using the Rekordboc button as the sound source - is this via a USB cable or the LAN cable ?

Thanks, Christopher

oh yeah sorry the AGG i for mac only. I am not that familiar with setting up with Windows, what kind of mixer are you using?

Wanted to add that if you activate the Link in the Rekordbox Software while a lan connection enabled between Laptop and CDJs, the CDJs should at least be shown i gray in the bottom of RB Software, exactly right of the Link Button. If nothing is shown, probably connection issue or firewall in between.

Lan in Export Mode, as you wrote before it seems to depend on the Rekordbox Mode, but I am not quite sure with that one, have not yet tested the Performance Mode because I am still saving my trial until the day Rekordbox can be considered as a safe and stable DJ Software.

@Christopher > There are a few options for you in terms of configuration, but before I ask any questions to dig further, what is the mixer you're using?

Solved it ...

LAN - This was a firewall issue. I looked up Network setting and got a whole load of messages asking if I wanted to allow Rekordbox through the firewall. I clicked 'allow' and the 'LINK' icon appeared along with the CDJ icons at the bottom of the screen. Click on the LINK icon and the CDJs kicked into action. So ... I can now use "Export" mode via LAN.

USB - I don't really know what happened here, but with a whole load of turning-off-and-on-again Rekordbox chose the "Pioneer CDJXDJ ASIO" Audio option then I adjusted the Output Channels to:

Output Deck 1 : L (CDJ-2000nexus2L) : R (CDJ-2000nexus2R)
Optput Deck 2 : L (CDJ-2000nexus1L) : R (CDJ-2000nexus1R)

and now
RkrdBx Deck 1 is controlled by CDJ1 and sound goes to Channel 1, and
RkrdBx Deck 2 is controlled by CDJ2 and sound goes to Channel 2

RkrdBx Deck3, Deck4, Sample Deck and Output Preview are not yet allocated but I can allocate to either CDJ1 or CDJ2.

FYI : My mixer is not connected to the LAN or USB - it is a DJM800.
