Using folders instead of playlists

Hi, I am new to RB as I am migrating from Serato.  I was told that I am much better off creating new folders and then folders within folders to sort my music as this is much better for USB use instead of playlists.  This is how I used to work Techno folder with sub folders such as non-vocal etc.

I have created these folders and I am ready to drag and drop from "collection" to the folders I created but it won't let me drag to folders???  I can drag to playlists.  What am I missing?

I'm using a Mac and the latest software??  Help

Yup got it.  I think I understand now.  So music can go only into playlists however those playlist can be in a folder.  Not really ideal but I will have to learn to work with it.  Thanks for taking the time to get back to me.

There is a bit of a learning curve with every software, not all applications have the same features and functions as another that you may be familiar with, but we are always looking to simplify things for the users and your feedback is important, so thank you for your comments. :)

Migrated from Traktor, I've got myself in a MAGIC environment thanks to Rekordbox.  In the beginning it was confusing. But @Janine I'd like to share you how I got myself a lucky life.

I used to have all my tracks separated in folders.  It was good.  It was ordered.  But... I gave up on that since Rekordbox. All my music files (ok, not that much currently 1800, but I don't need more on the road) are put in ONE folder.  Wait... you'll understand.  The advantage of this is that you can easily remove duplicate files.

Now it's getting interesting.  In Rekordbox, I switch on the MY TAG configuration window. There I've deleted everything and replaced with my own music genres (actually names of possible playlists). Eighties, House, New Beat, Rock, Deephouse, Disco, ...

Then I've imported all files in my collection.  Pre-listen all tracks, it's a little bit of work, but it goes quite fast. In three evenings I was ready.  For each track, mark the checkbox(es) next to the genre(s) it belongs to. A track can belong to more than one genre.  For example it's DISCO but also a SWING number.  So this track should appear in two different playlists for me.  The Disco Playlist and the Swing playlist.

Then you get to the Playlists.  I've created ALL my playlists as INTELLIGENT playlists. The playlist rule is that tracks must have the My Tag set to ... (example) Disco.

And guess what, the playlists are auto generated and maintained.  Suppose you play a track and you think it might also fit in another playlist, just click the checkbox next to that "genre" (of whatever you interprete it) and it's moved to the other playlist.  You don't have to drag-drop. The checkbox does it all.

Personally, I think it's great !!!

BIGGEST DISADVANTAGE : Once you are up to this, there's no simple way to get back to Serato/Traktor in nicely divided folders.  But... this is not my intention (no matter how happy I was with Traktor - great product) ... Rekordbox is the standard in major clubs.  I gave up the times walking around with a laptop.  USB stick is more than heavy enough ;-)

Good luck!
