For a while now I have been frustrated with low volumes on both units through the headphones. Volume starts of loud and fine then suddenly drops to a bare whisper on cueing tracks.
I have changed several motherboards and several power supplies up to 1200watts (gold rated) hunting for a solution to the problem. Even to the point of trying various externally powered usb hubs.
The problem is with the usb2 power ratings as far as I am aware. Usb2 is limited to 500ma output power, this seems to drop theDDJ's headphone volumes down by under powering them when at a high volume.
Solution is plug the DDJ's into an available usb3 port. Usb3 has an output of 900ma. This so far seems to have solved the problem of the headphones dropping to a low volume.
Those are considered "low-impedance" but it could still be your computer isn't providing adequate power to the USB circuitry, thus a lower output power. Perhaps try it with a different USB port or another computer.

This is correct - the maximum current draw on USB2 is 0.5A, while on USB3 it's 0.9A.
Some headphones with high-impedance will require more power to drive them, which is not available through the DDJ-SB or DDJ-SR series controllers. For example, the HDJ-2000's are 36ohm, Sennheiser HD25's are 70ohm, both considered "low impedance" headphones. What are you using as cans?
Headphones used while the problem existed were, Denon DN-HP1000's, Numark Redwaves and finally Pioneer HDJ-1500's.
The Denon DN-HP1000 are 36ohm, Numark Red Wave are 24ohm and HDJ-1500's are 32ohm, all within the "low" impedance range, but it may simply be you prefer higher output than what is typically provided as the maximum. I've never found the controllers to be underpowered for the headphones output.
That's what was puzzling me. Using the DDJ's on usb 2 with headphones put the ddj into some sort of power save/reduction mode. As soon as I cued up 2 tracks with the headphone volume around 3/4 volume the volume took a sudden drop to virtually inaudible. Since switching to the usb3 socket the problem has not surfaced yet. I own the sx and sx2 plus both sb versions. Some of the booths I work in are very limited space and the sb's fit in just nicely. Hence having the sb's.
Yep, just bought my ddj sb2 controller. Same problem!! Which headphone should I buy, I'm an entry level dj on a tight budget

I'm using Behringer hpx 2000. Someone mentioned something about high impedance etc. these ones are rated at 64 ohm - is that good or bad?

Same problem here, while im Mixing my headphones become quiter after 30 minutes or 1,5 hours... i dont know what that is, but it is annoying.

Try a different one, just because it shipped with it, doesn't mean it's not faulty.
I had the same issue and found it was the USB on the DDJ-SB. I re-tensioned and cleaned the contacts. Has been fine ever since,
