CDJ-2000nexus USB Issues

I played on a set of 2000nexus' players this weekend linked and with a 16gb flash drive. I don't own a pair of these (nor would I after this performance) but just out of curiosity I wanted to see if this was user error or a bug.

Analyzed all tracks on drive with rekordbox (a joke) and sync'd afterwards before leaving for gig. Get to gig, players are on latest firmware. Linked the decks and inserted USB drive. Some tracks load and play correctly and display both waveforms.

After playing a few tunes a tune loads up with no waveform but plays but also has terrible pitch drift (something my old 800's have zero issue with). After trying to load the next tune into the deck without the USB drive I click the track and it hangs. Displays "loading" for 3-4 minutes to which at that point the other track is about to end. Restart the deck thats stuck loading 2-3 times with same issue after it re-recognizes the shared USB drive and a different tune was selected.

Only way to fix it was to yank the USB drive out of the deck playing and reboot other player while plugging back in USB drive. After linking back together (a good 30s) I was able to pick another tune and switch players in the mix.

This happened 6 times during my set. I thought I would have an easy night due to only having to bring a USB stick instead of my full setup (DJM400/CDJ800). Boy, I was wrong.

USB drive was brand new recently formatted.

@Lawrence > A few questions for you...

  • What version of rekordbox did you use?
  • Did you possible have the rekordbox analysis mode set to dynamic?
  • What is the make / model of the USB drive?
  • What utility did you use to format them?

I have recently bought two CDJ2000NEXUS and used a SanDisk 64GB USB 3.0 with the LAN cables connected via a switching hub. I recorded some of my vinyl to WAV at 24Bit 48KHz and imported them into recordbox, sorted out cue points etc. and about half an hour in of just normal mixing, when I pressed the top of the jog dial and then selected a point on the needle search strip, the player that had the usb in just froze and said now loading, and never loaded. I tried formatting the USB via my PC using 3rd party software, suggested by SanDisk technical help 3 times as suggested in an earlier post and synced it again in RB. It happens in whichever player the USB is in whether the LAN is connected via switching hub or direct to the other player. I have used two of the same USB's in player 1 and 2 at the same time and the screen freezes in both. For some strange reason whichever player the USB is not in, plays the frozen track with no problem over the LAN connected to the player with the USB stick in. I have tried it every which way I could and it still happens. I have been in touch with pioneer UK and they say they are waiting for Japan to send them some CDJ's to try and recreate what is happening. No news for two weeks now. I have had to use a SanDisk 32GB SDHC card instead and this seems to have sorted the problem. My only problem is, all my files are WAV files so I can only have a certain amount on the USB at any one time because they are obviously bigger files. It does the same thing on a HAMA 32GB USB 2.0 stick.
