It really depends. What CDJs and mixer are you using?
Hello reader ,
Here's my problem;
I've got an Macbook Air and on it I have rekordbox 4.0.5 and a licence for rekordbox DJ.
My Rekordbox masterdatabase is on an external hard drive because I switch it between my desktop PC and my laptop (use desktop to prepare sets, laptop to preform) my Itunes Library (so all my songs) are on this hard drive too.
The problem is : when connecting my rekordbox DJ to the CDJ's where I am performing I use the 2 usb inputs on my laptop. But then there won't be any place to connect my external hard drive (only 2 USB inputs on macbook Air ).
Question :
using something like an USB-hub , won't this slow things down (e.g. reading the files and stuff )
I'd rather actually not use the Hard-drive cause it just jingles on the side of my laptop .. asking for problems .. but i see this as the only way to use my rekordbox on both dekstop and laptop.
any other simple solutions or anyone who does this in a more effective way ?
Any Tips and info is welcome ,
Thanks in advance !

@RandomShuffle > I connect almost everything via my USB3 hub and have no problems. My external drive is where my database lives, the CDJs and DJM connect via USB also ... no troubles so far.
Thanks for the response !
@ lostnthesound : @ home I use 2 CDJ 400's and an Reloop Mixer but I don't see how that information will help you concerning my question about what to do with my database on my harddrive ? Those hardware pieces are just connected via USB to my laptop, everything performs well there.
@Pioneer admin : ok I see an USB 3 hub , I just tested connecting via USB hub (but quite an old one no USB 3.0) everything worked well indeed : connected one USB connector on my laptop directly to my CDJ , the other one to my USB hub and in that hub put the other CDJ and my hard drive. No problems there.
I guess if you say there shouldn't be any troubles there i can use this system, although it takes quite a while to set up if you arrive at a gig or something (but that's a minor flaw i guess) and still the danger of jerking out my hard-drive.
I had the idea of putting all my music databases (Itunes & Rekordbox) on an SD card maybe .. cause that seems a bit safer and then I can connect the CDJ's directly to my laptop .. any feedback/expierence on that ?
I wouldn't use an SD card as my primary rekordbox source, their read/write speed are not reliable enough.
edit :
SD card will be to small for a whole database
there will come and SD card with the capacity of 500 gigabyte (still not enough i think) but that will be like a 1000 euros .. : )
so stupid idea i had there
Yes I see , OK using the system of the Hard drive and the hub will be the choice then
thanks for the info !
@RandomShuffle I was asking to see what alternatives could be used depending upon what CDJs you had–for example, if you had CDJ's with USB inputs for an external HDD and/or SD card slot. Then I would've suggested using the external HDD on a single CDJ deck and combining your rig into a ProDJ Link setup so that you wouldn't have to occupy the USB slot on your MacBook air. But I digress.
I get the way you're thinking, but I want to use the databases on my computer so I want the Hard drive to be connected to my laptop and not to the CDJ's.
I think it's not the perfect way to plugin the HDD in a CDJ and then get the data to my laptop, into rekordbox DJ and then back to the CDJ .. don't even know if that's possible ?
I keep forgetting that you're utilizing RekordBox DJ (which requires the laptop) rather than just RekordBox. Sorry for the confusion. :)
No problem !
I've had all my questions answered so problem solved : )
