Hello all.  I'm stuck between the XDJ RX and the Pioneer DDJ RZ; not sure which one to buy.  I know one uses a laptop and the other doesn't, but I love the larger Jog wheels and features of the RZ.  But then, I have to use a laptop.  I know this is hard to answer but maybe some user experience on both would help.  Thanks.

Rx is pretty hot. That's if you want to be laptop free. I just got the xdj 700 and let me say they are the best! Was going to buy the rx. But due to it limit on music folder held me back. If u like the big jogs and want to be laptop free. Look at the xdj 1000 the pretty good too. But if you a laptop dj then go with the sz. All depends what you feel good about. 😀

I can help you out.  I own both units...overkill right?  I bought the XDJRX in November, and instantly fell in love with it, it was perfect for me.  I'm an old school vinyl DJ, started back in 86, 87.  I'm used to 2 channels and a crossfader, two platters, I felt right at home with it.  I had to learn to use Rekordbox for analysis of tracks, and quickly found out that the beat grids had to be manually adjusted for a lot of tracks.  Rekordbox DJ then was released, and I signed up for the 30 day trial and just really loved it, but at the time the XDJRX was not compatible with it...so that's how I ended up buying the DDJRZ.  I did my homework and decided to get the RZ over the RX, the look, the features, and those full size platters sold me.  I did not get the SZ because it was Serato based and I had no experience or desire to use Serato so it was pointless.  The RZ is awesome, it's great, you will love it guaranteed.  Learning to mix with 4 channels and the upfaders is a bit tricky, because it's all new, but I'm progressing and having fun too.

I highly recommend both, I wouldn't part with either one.  If I was in the market to purchase one right now, the RZ hands down.  Pioneer is having their March Madness sale, buy the DDJRZ and get the pioneer road case free!  It come with Rekordbox DJ and they are giving you a free DVS license too!  That's over $500 worth of stuff you'd probably need to get if you bought the XDJRX.  That easily makes up the $500 cost difference between the two units plus 4 channels and full size platters...2 sound cards, wolfson dac, and whatever else more it has.

Wow, thanks Rick for the great response.  The only thing that has stopped me from the RZ was having a laptop. But I love the larger platters and all the features it has.

Do you notice any latency issues?

Personally I have had no latency issues at all.  There are adjustments you can

make In the software that will affect latency though...just a matter of preference.

If you want to break free from the laptop the RX will do the job fantastic.

There is an advantage the RX has over the RZ, it can do both now.  Pioneer made

the RX compatible with the Rekordbox DJ software, so you can go stand alone, or

use it as a controller.

I love the XDJ RX except for the smaller jog wheels. I may try the RZ but then I have to bring the laptop as well. Decisions, decisions lol.

But to be honest with you I think you should go with laptop free. It's less worry about some bozo try to spill or knock down your laptop. Which u pay mad money and have a lot of stuff in it. Most club, lounge and etc have pioneer gear. It great to just walk with a 256gb usb stick in your pocket an just play. When u done just put it right back in your pocket and go home. Not sure if you can put a laptop in your pocket and go home. Never tried that. Lol

I'm almost there with the RZ but I have a feeling that Pioneer may come out with a larger RX. Type controller. Hopefully.

Pioneer will never say when they coming out with new gear. They like Area 51 but in a dj world. It all depends on you. If u need something right now an can't wait then get what u need. But if u can hang on for a bit to see what happen. Then wait to see what happens this year

I just bought the xdj700 this week. So if they do come out with something at least I can still use them with the new unit. Most likely they will have inputs for other device to hook up

BPM 2016 show is in September

They will definitely have some new winter gear to show.

Hopefully a 4 channel XDJRX...XDJRZ?

Either way it will be interesting to see what's new.

Soon pioneer going to ditch serato! They working on more with there own software. So that means that they going to have better gear to suit the rekordbox an rekordbox dj.

If you really can't wait just get the new cdj nxs2 with the djm 900 nxs2. I think they have a late Easter sale for just $10,000!
