Auto BPM feature on DJM-2000Nexus

Does the autobpm detect feature on the djm-2000Nexus work with vinyl? (obviously it should and does, but something seems to be up with channel 1 possibly, or a combination of turntable flutter/recording/autobpm detect sample size)

I've used it before to check the tempo of a record, but now its not working. I have a tech12 connected to serato and then into the djm on channel 1 through cd/digital, it doesn't detect the bpm, the display just keeps flashing what the last detected bpm was, when I play something through serato using a CDJ in HID mode and on channel 3 or 4, it very quickly detects the correct bpm.

I tried bypassing serato and plugging the turntable directly into channel 1, phono input, same thing, I switched it to phono input on channel 4, same thing. I considered that maybe its the record, blues in this case, otis span, it might be the recording itself, I tried another record, a spice 1 record, and it detected it at 94/95bpm which is accurate even though that particular record is somewhat warped (part of the reason I chose it).  I tried this on channel 4 and 1, connected straight to phono from the turntable, it seemed to pick up the bpm much quicker on channel 4.

Any idea what the issue could be? is there any setting to lower the time autobpm spends detecting the bpm, like a smaller sample size?

I noticed there was another post, similar issue with channel 1 on a DJM-900SRT, and the channel/mic effect selectors had something to do with it, however I tried all combinations of those to no effect.

**After flipping the spice 1 record, and listening to the other side, after a few minutes of detecting on channel 1 the the bpm went from 93 to 153, which makes no sense, and then back to 93.

Could it have something to do with the flutter of the turntable? (which I'm pretty sure isn't that significant), Although I have yet to check it with the other turntable to eliminate that possibility..

**could it have something to do with the stereo mixing on the blues records? sometimes the vocal is mostly on one channel with piano on the other?

*** After checking the with the other turntable, passed through the serato box, and on channel 2 cd/line input, I got mixed results at first it detected 92 on the spice 1 (rap) vinyl, then with a blues record, its fluctuating between 169 and 173 which is incorrect, and also seems to take quite a while to detect vs something playing straight through serato.

This leads me to believe that it has something to do with a combination of factors:
1) the recording itself may fluctuate slightly in tempo.
2) turntable flutter may play a role.
3) the stereo mixing on certain records might be confusing it, although the difference wasn't significant when I switched the mixer's main output to mono from stereo.
4) the auto bpm feature detection or sample length is long enough that the turntable flutter combined with the varied recording tempo might be constantly resetting the process of detecting the bpm before it can finish?
5) Some phantom factor affecting channel 1? See this thread about a 900SRT with a strange issue on channel 1: https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/203039669-DJM-900SRT-Auto-BPM-problem?input_string=Auto%20BPM%20feature%20on%20DJM-2000Nexus

**** I tried with quantize turned on and off on the DJM-2000Nexus settings, which shouldnt affect it, but just to eliminate another factor

If anybody has any insight or ideas on this please let me know, thanks!

@Spiceace > You say "connected to Serato then into the DJM," what exactly does that mean? Are you using an SL box?

yes I am, but I bypassed it and went straight into the mixer with RCAs from the turntable to rule that out

In that case, the auto BPM certainly wouldn't work as the incoming signal is timecode... which has no beat.

Im not using timecode vinyl, and the SL box outputs audio from the outs

Do you have the beat-effects channel selector set to the same channel you're wanting to apply the effects to or is it set to MASTER?

The issue is really that when I play a vinyl record, the autobpm takes a very long time to work, doesnt work at all, or is inaccurate, but only for certain records, like the blues ones for example.

Well, a track with a varying time signature or not-entirely accurate tempo (like you might find on a jazz recording) would be slower to detect than an electronica recording with a hard and distinct 4/4 beat, so yes, that might explain it.
