Maximum length of a single track

Hello :)

Is there a limit of how long a track (a mix) can be before the CDJ becomes unstable when playing it?

Like a recorded set, from a club gig yesterday, which is 5-7 hours long. If I were to put the MP3 file on a USB, without analyzing it in Rekordbox, would the CDJ play this file and still be a stable platform or become unstable? :)

Hope my question makes sense :)

I don't think it's a matter of stability, the only issue is you won't have a waveform display for those long files. I seem to recall the max waveform being around 2hrs, but if you're copying it direct, it wouldn't have one anyhow.

I've tried this on the CDJ-2000 NXS2 and found that a 1.5 hour AIFF file will load and play, but will not show a waveform, even if the file was analyzed in Rekordbox. Instant doubles will not work with the file either, the second deck will just load the file and begin playing from the beginning. All other functions I tested behave as expected.

Did you end up trying this? What was your experience?

i think the cutoff on waveform may be 1 hour. I have an analyzed premix for dinner background that 70 minutes long and the zoomable wave does not show on CDJ but shows in rekordbox

great thanks for the info. strange limitation, especially on the latest model. I guess it's a rare use case but perhaps a future FW update will address this.

Unfortunately it has to do with the available memory and processing for rendering and buffering a waveform of that length. Since most use of the players are for single tracks, there is little need for that kind of performance in a song (mix set) over X minutes (60, 70, whatever).
