I first tried recording using the USB and it was OK. I then tried the REC OUT and again it was OK, I actually felt like I had a little more control over the levels with this approach.
What about the DIGITAL MASTER OUT is that worth trying? Its a single RCA how does that work?
I want to record mixes but I'm not entirely happy with the sound quality. I am open to buying & using new or different software, sound recording interface etc. but what will remain the same in my setup is I will continue to use the DJM 850 and 2x Technics 1210s plus Apple Mac is the final destination for the recorded audio - other than I can be flexible.
Any thoughts/advice will be gratefully received.

Are you using software or straight vinyl? I always just set the utilities menu USB to Rec Out and then use Audacity. If you're using software, just record through the software. I do a lot of events where videographers plug into my master output and record to a device, they all do it the same way, you may want to look at that. The digital output can be adjyusted on the menu for what level of attenuation you get.
The only software currently involved in the whole process is aAudacity to capture the audio on my computer. Not using anything like Serato, this is a very simple setup; vinyl, turntables and mixer - thats it.
Maybe I'm just listening to a lot of mixes that have had post-production work done on them but I'd like to maximise the sound quality as much as I can and my recordings don't seem that good. The sound is a little weak and lacks warmth.
Maybe it more do with settings as opposed to equipment??
