Sorry, but I must ask. Are you holding the SHIFT and SYNC buttons on the left deck while powering up your DDJ-RX?
i`ve downloaded the firmware, but everytime i try to update my controller all i get is a message saying ...
new firmware is available go to download page.
I have downloaded the latest version of the firmware,i`ve installed java as well..but i cannot find the .jar file to update my controller once i`ve unzipped the firmware folder. I`m using windows 10 laptop.
If anybody can tell me how to update my DDJ-RX to the new firmware i`d be very grateful, thanks.

I`ve just noticed that the zip file is actually the .jar file...but i still can`t update my DDJ-RX. I`m doing everything right, holding shift & sync as i turn the power on,wait till the led lights flash, then release the shift & sync buttons...but when i do i`m still getting this message...
Controller Information
NOTICE
The firmware of the DDJ-RX,which is connected to your computer is not the latest version.
To get new version, please go to the download page of Pioneer DJ website.
I`ve deleted the firmware file that i downloaded & re downloaded the file from Pioneer download page & i still get this error message each & everytime i try to update my controller.
This is really frustrating, especially when your following the instructions given to the letter. Please help sort this out Pioneer.
For some reason this was happening with me with my ddj rr but then below the download link or near it somewhere there is instructions to download, I downloaded instructions ,followed them and it updated and I have no idea what I did differently, the problem I had was whenever I put it in download mode then went to update it said please disconnect the controller to start but then it wouldn't update because controller was disconnected ,it's possibly the worst software I have ever used ,keep trying and follow downloaded instructions step by step.
chris i`ve followed the instructions to the letter numerous times & it just wont update. I love the software, its the only one i`ve ever used used & i really like it, but this problem with the update is seriously pissing me off.
I`ve had no issues before updating the software, but this time trying to update the firmware is a joke.
I`ve also tried updating with rekordbox off,no luck with that either. I`ve tried it in export mode as well, that doesnt work.
The instructions are so simple to follow, yet trying to get it to work is near impossible.
Only thing I can think of really is to leave it disconnected by USB then go ahead and try to install the file like u do but wait for it to say please connect the controller ,power it on but power it straight on into download mode ,then see what happens ,sorry if that's no help,I just remember having to muck about a lot myself.
Not trying to be funny Chris...but how can i try to install the file with my controller not connected to my laptop?
The controller is essentially just a "dumb" box that controls the software, but you obviously need the correct firmware installed on the controller to properly manipulate the rekordbox software...therefore you need to connect the controller to install the firmware.
It seems like the easiest thing in the world to do...but for some reason it just doesnt work.
Updating the rekordbox software to the different versions is fine, but updating the firmware is proving impossible.
Please sort it out Pioneer.
Obviously it's not going to update firmware on something that isn't connected ,what I was saying is keep the usb disconnected then when you then try and install the firmware it says please connect therefore it's prompting you to connect it ,so then plug usb back in but turn it straight on into download mode and it may start installing,I did that or something very similar.
I`ve tried what you said...doesn`t work. Thanks mate but i`m stumped.
No worries ,be nice if they replied a bit more often to customers that have spent hundreds tbh.
I`m not gonna be too critical to be honest...it`s a sunday day of relaxation after all. Hopefully someone from Pioneer can help me out in the next few days.
Mark, i`m holding down shift & sync as i power up the controller, then when the led meter lights flash i let go of the sync & shift buttons...& all i get everytime is the message that the firmware isnt the latest version & to download from the website.
I`ve downloaded the file v103 from the website & followed the instructions to the letter...i`ve connected my ddj-rx to my laptop & my pc to try & update the firmware ...and i keep getting the same message everytime.
I managed to solve the firmware update problem i had. The problem is getting windows 10 to run the .jar file.
I had to download a programme called jar runner from here:
http://download.cnet.com/JAR_Runner/3000-2094_4-76475806.html
Once installed,i then had to associate the .jar file to the java executable file which is found on C:/Program Files(x86)/Java/jre1.8.0_101/bin/javaw.exe
Once the zipped file is associated with the executable file i right clicked it & opened it with Jar Runner & the firmware updater opened & i was able to update the firmware.
Before you open the file with jar runner though make sure that your controller is connected to your pc/laptop by usb & that you have already started the controller by holding sync & shift button on the left hand deck & powered it up..making sure that the led meter lights are flashing. If your controller isn`t connected & turned on in update mode the updater won`t start.
I hope this helps anybody else having the same problem updating to new firmware in windows 10.
@David > Thanks for the information. Glad you got it sorted. I will be sure to pass that along to the engineering team for review. Enjoy your DDJ-RX!
No problem Mark...I knew I had done everything correctly, but couldn't work out why the updater wasn't starting. So I guessed it must've been a problem with the Java file on Windows 10. After a bit of a search online,it was apparent that there was a problem running Java files on Windows 10 for lots of people & one guy had the solution. So thankfully it worked & hopefully it helps others on here with the same issue.
Strange. I'm on Windows 10 as well and had to install Java specifically to update the firmware on my DDJ-RX. It updated without issue.
Windows 10 isn't greatest I don't think...time to invest in a MacBook for me I think, less comparability issues. You shouldn't have to install 3rd party software to update the firmware though. I'm just glad I got it sorted,as I was losing patience with the whole thing.
@david > I've got news for you -- Mac also requires Java to be installed in order to run that update utility.
In case you're unfamiliar with it, Java is a programming language which allows developers to create universal applications that will run the same on any operating system. I'm sorry you're upset that you need this "3rd party software," but this is how Pioneer DJ's team has decided to create some of the tools they use, and as such, you need to have the Java framework installed.
There are literally hundreds of programming languages / frameworks / codecs out there doing this exact same thing, chances are you never notice it because that tool is already installed.
@pulse thanks I didn't know that. As I said the problem I had wasn't with pioneer it was Windows 10. I installed Java as required but windows10 wouldn't run the .jar file so it was nothing to do with pioneer & all to do with how Windows 10 deals with Java. Now I know that macs require Java as well I bet they don't have the same issues as Windows 10 users.
I"m having an issue with the jog wheels not responding when being held, after updating to the new firmware. I'm running Mac OSX El Capitan 10.11.5
David, like I said previously, I'm on Windows 10 as well and had no issues. Many other Windows 10 users have updated without any snags. Your issue isn't Windows 10, or at least not solely Windows 10.
Any idea what it could've been then sheen?
It could be a multitude of things. My first guess is missing Windows Updates. Was Java installed as an Administrator? Was the update run as Administrator? The guesses go on and on. Pinpointing the cause of these types of things is too time consuming to bother with unless it's a necessity.
Absolute legend posting that link, i was about to go postal.
Again absolute legend!
had the same problem.. (2017) when i start Rekordbox with its connected pioneer DDJ_RX it says firmware isnt up to date.. when i follow the simple introduction like i always did in 2016.. ( pushing sync" + shift / left deck while switching on power ) no update starts... will try to follow that Jar-runner advice..
I'm running the DJ rx off of MacBook Pro I'm getting
The error saying the controller isn't connected which
Is weird!! What do I do??
