Opus Quad: set loop not active when playing from cue, inconsistent?

Hi, I'm wondering if the following behavior is desired and consistent:

When I set a loop by pressing the loop knob (e.g. a 4-beat autoloop) the loop is set and starts playing. Then I press an empty hot cue button to save the hot cue with the loop on it. When I press the hot cue button the loop starts playing as desired.

Now: when the loop is playing and I press the temporary cue button (with hot cue replacement enabled), the playback stops as desired. When I then press play again, playback starts but the loop is inactive. E.g. pressing CUE and then play deactivates the loop and afaik that's different behavior than in rekordbox, no? I can only start playback with the loop via the hot cue or by using the re-loop funcation (shift + loop knob).

I have a video in case that's needed.

In most Pioneer systems like Rekordbox, when you hit the temporary cue button, playback stops and the deck returns to the temporary cue point. This might reset the loop status, deactivating it unless you trigger the loop again using the hot cue or re-loop function.

If you're expecting the loop to remain active after using the temporary cue, it's possible that Opus Quad handles this differently than Rekordbox, where the cueing might prioritize linear playback over keeping the loop active.

The temporary cue button is generally designed to allow DJs to quickly return to a specific point in the track, often without preserving the active loop unless the hot cue is loop-enabled.

Rekordbox usually allows loops to remain active if the loop was part of a saved hot cue, but this might not extend to manual loops triggered without hot cue association.

After pressing CUE and then PLAY, the loop appears to deactivate, which suggests that playback is being treated as starting from a non-loop point. If you want the loop to remain active after hitting play, using the hot cue associated with the loop or the re-loop function (shift + loop knob) seems to be required.

From what you're describing, the behavior could be consistent in terms of how the Opus Quad interprets cueing and loops. However, it does differ from how Rekordbox handles loops, where loops are more tightly integrated with cues, and temporary cues don't necessarily deactivate loops unless the cue point is outside the loop.

It seems like an inconsistency with Rekordbox. On the Opus Quad, pressing CUE stops playback as expected, but pressing PLAY after that deactivates the loop. In Rekordbox, the loop usually stays active.

Possible reasons:

  • Hardware-specific behavior: Opus Quad may handle loops differently.
  • Hot cue priority: The system may prioritize hot cues over active loops.
  • Firmware design or issue: It could be intentional or a bug.

Workarounds:

  • Use Hot Cue instead of CUE to keep the loop active.
  • Reactivate the loop with Shift + Loop Knob.
  • Check for firmware updates or settings adjustments.

Might be worth reporting to Pioneer DJ if unintended.

Thanks for the helpful comments and insights with which I agree. However, I'd like to point out that the behavior on the OQ is not consistent. Sometimes it does keep the loop active when pressing hot-CUE, then cue to get to the beginning of the loop and then play. Sometimes the next play is with the active loop, sometimes the loop is not active. I don't mind either way but consistent would be useful and also described how it's supposed to work and how/why.

hi, space waves

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too on the Opus Quad. It threw me off at first because I was expecting it to behave like Rekordbox, where the loop stays active after hitting CUE and then PLAY. On the Opus, it seems like hitting CUE always disables the loop unless you retrigger it manually or hit the saved hot cue.

Wow, that loop thing with the Opus Quad sounds kinda annoying! Seems like a pretty big difference from Rekordbox. Hope they fix that in a firmware update soon! (by crazy cattle 3d)

Huh, that's kinda annoying! I use loops all the time, so that Opus Quad behavior would definitely mess with my flow. Hope Pioneer fixes that in an update soon Destiny Matrix!

Hey there, I've noticed a similar quirk! It's like the Opus Quad forgets about the loop when juggling cues. Feels a bit like trying to survive a night in Fnaf – unpredictable behavior! The hot cues work consistently, keeping the loop alive, but the temporary cue seems to reset everything. Definitely different from my Rekordbox experience. Anyone else experiencing this? Maybe a setting I'm missing?

Sounds like you've stumbled upon a little quirk in the Opus Quad! It's like having a game of musical chairs with your loops—press the wrong button and, poof, they disappear. For some handy tips on playing around with these settings, you might want to check out <a href="https://dirs.cc/" target="_blank">Dirs.cc</a>.

In Rekordbox, when you stop and resume playback from a looped cue, the loop generally stays active. But on the Opus Quad (and similar Pioneer italian brainrot gear), pressing CUE effectively resets the loop state. When you then press PLAY, it just starts linear playback without re-engaging the loop.

Hi everyone,

I’ve been digging into this “loop not active when playing from cue” issue on the Opus Quad, and it seems to boil down to how the device handles loops versus cues exported from Rekordbox.

  1. Active loops must be set using memory cue banks, not hot cues  Hot cues trigger an instant return point, whereas memory cues support full loop playback when hitting Play.

  2. From community feedback, smart cues and auto loops saved in Rekordbox don’t always transfer correctly to the standalone mode. The Opus Quad may ignore them or require manual looping instead, making the behavior inconsistent .

  3. A few Reddit users suggest that loop indicators function differently when connected via USB compared to standalone mode. There could be missing display feedback, even if the loop is technically active. Pranking Fury

It sounds like you're experiencing some frustrating inconsistencies with the Opus Quad. I've definitely run into similar situations when working with different DJ setups. For me, having reliable loop control is essential for seamless mixing. It's interesting to compare experiences across different software, like when I tried using Snow Rider 3D for a more smooth integration with my workflow. It’s always worth exploring those alternatives to see what fits best for your style. Keep experimenting, and hopefully, you'll find a solution that works!

Your best bet is to configure your preferred settings in rekordbox (including things like Deck Load Lock), then re-export them to USB greenssolarsolutions. I agree it's a bit unclear, and definitely feels like a feature that should be added in a future update!

I’ve run into the same behavior on my Quad—hitting CUE then Play drops the active loop, unlike how my old rekordbox setup behaved. What’s worked for me is committing the loop to a hot cue and re-triggering it from there, or using re-loop. Weirdly reminds me of practicing timing on Geometry Dash: set checkpoints, then restart cleanly. Also, thanks to the admin for clarifying these quirks!

In exploring the Matrix Destiny of musical flow on the Opus Quad, I’ve noticed a potential inconsistency in the cue and loop behavior—almost like a misaligned energy node in a numerological chart.

Here’s the scenario:

  1. I set a 4-beat loop (auto-loop via loop knob).

  2. I store that loop to an empty hot cue. Everything works as expected—pressing the hot cue launches playback within the loop.

  3. While the loop is playing, I press the temporary Cue button (hot cue replace is active), and playback stops—perfect.

  4. But when I press Play again, the loop is now inactive. Playback resumes, but outside the loop.

In Rekordbox, starting from a cue point within a loop (especially one stored via hot cue) typically resumes the loop. But on Opus Quad, unless I trigger the hot cue again or manually re-activate the loop (Shift + Loop knob), it plays on as if the loop never existed.

Is this intended behavior on the Opus Quad, or is the loop’s "destiny code" being overridden unexpectedly?

When you press the temporary cue button and then play, the loop becoming inactive could be an unintended inconsistency. Typically, slope one would expect the loop to remain active unless explicitly deactivated. Providing a video could help clarify the issue for further investigation

I remember when I first got my hands on a controller and, just like in this Opus Quad scenario, expected the loop to remain active after using the cue—only to find it suddenly dropped out! Looks like we need a true Slice Master to juggle all these quirks between hardware and software.

Hey, that does sound inconsistent! I've noticed similar quirks with cue points before. While troubleshooting, maybe consider using an interval timer  to track how long different functions take. It could help you spot patterns in the behavior!

It sounds like you've encountered a bit of inconsistency with the loop functionality in Opus Quad! I can see how important it is for your workflow to have the loop remain active when switching between hot cues and temporary cues. It's definitely worth bringing up to the developers, especially if it differs from the experience in rekordbox. Speaking of loops, if you're looking for a fun retro football experience, check out Retro Bowl – it’s a great way to unwind!

The quirks of audio equipment never cease to amaze me! Opus Quad’s loop function not kicking in from the cue point kind of reminds me of when I once battled with the Level Devil of misbehaving FX triggers on my own controller.

Yes, this can happen on the OPUS-QUAD depending on how the cue/play logic is triggered, and it’s not always identical to Rekordbox software behavior.
