Have you tried a different USB cable / USB port?
When trying to update my SX to the latest firmware the program says the device isn't connected? I've followed the guide and the device is in update mode, I've also tried the other usb ports and unplugged all other usb's but the problem still persists, is it a problem with the device itself?

Does the SX appear on the devices list (when not in update mode)?

No, when I connect it it says the device has malfunctioned and cannot be recognised
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers?
I only installed the drivers this afternoon so I don’t think that’ll be the issue

Yes - uninstall, ensure Windows is fully updated, restart, then reinstall - right click on the driver installation and select "run as administrator," even if you are an admin account.
I found a help section on an sz driver install guide that said if you have trouble with the device not being connected uninstall the drivers, then try to install the firmware then install the drivers, shall I follow those steps or do drivers first?
The firmware and drivers are independent of each-other, it doesn't matter the order.
