Export Collection XML Vs Backup Library

Hi there,

i just switched from Traktor to Rekordbox. What is the best way for backing up my collection (cue points, etc.. ) - are the cue points stored in the XML File? So Export Collection to XML does the trick? Or do i need to click on FILE > Library > back up library? What is exactly the difference between those two except for the possibility to include the actual songs in back up library?

Thanks for your help - much appreciated!! Christian

You select it as an XML to load & read rather than import it.

It will then appear on the tree at the left as an option to browse.

The XML file includes track metadata, cue points, beat grids and playlists, but it does not contain artwork or waveforms. So importing the XML file into an empty collection requires you to re-analyze all the tracks.

The file generated by File > Library > Backup Library is a proper backup with artwork and waveforms, and is therefore much larger than the XML file.

Okay, so there is no way to import the collection listed in the XML and overwrite the Collection inside RB? I just went through the trouble of Finding and Replacing all so called "Track Tonalities" to Camelot notation and thought I could import them in the main collection..

Ok! So what I did is I exported the Collection XML. I then edited it and loaded it into the "Rekordbox XML" in preferences. You're saying I can then select the tracks in the Rekordbox XML and hit Reload Tags, and that that will affect and update my main collection?

No, just select the tracks in the main collection and reload the tags -- the XML has nothing to do with that portion.

Hm. Perhaps what I'm trying to do won't work.

I assumed that I could edit the XML and load the changes inside of RB by importing the XML.

By the way when I hit Reload Tags the Tonality info disappears..

What is the filetype and which metadata field are you using to store the information?

This particular file was WAV. But I'm not sure we're understanding each other...

I'm using the Export Collection feature which results in a Rekordbox xml file that has the collection and all the tracks. Each Track in the XML has different fields. I'm going for the Tonality and the Comments fields.

Using Powershell scripting, I then edited all the tracks in the XML and set their Comments to the Camelot notation of the key found in the field called Tonality.

The result is a Rekordbox XML with my full collection with Camelot notation in the Comments field for each track. That was the easy part.

Now I want to update my working collection with the new metadata from the Rekordbox XML file.

In the Rekordbox application, I noticed that I could select all the tracks in the Rekordbox XML part of the interface and drag them into my collection. That appears to copy the track from the XML into my collection. It gave me the option to overwrite my collection. I hit "No and don't ask me again" because I wasn't ready. But now I am, but RB won't give me the option any more..

Bah :P Why can't the RB be in sync with the XML? Or at least be able to import it in a clean way? Maybe my use case is edge.. But I don't see how we're supposed to work with the XML. Perhaps the features around it arent ready? It seems like it needs some work before it's usable.

So it appears that if you chose "No and don't ask me again" (on the question should RB rewrite exisiting tracks) you can't do it ever again. Perhaps I have to reinstall to clear that setting
