Crackling noise when recording from CDJ

When I try to record my mixes from the DJM + CDJ's to the laptop, I hear a crackling noise (especially in the bass).

The setup is as follow:
- Booth goes directly to the speakers (via XLR)
- Master goes through external soundcard (RCA) via USB to laptop.

There's no evidence of clipping. Is there something wrong? Or what other ways could there be to record a set from your CDJ's?

No. I recently switched from a Behringer to a DJM800, so no USB, but the issue is still there.

Now the Rec is going via external soundcard to USB in laptop.
Master goes to the (XLR) speakers.

The crackling sound is mainly heard when the bass kicks.

It could be a number of things, but I'd start by checking the audio buffer on the recording software (for your USB audio interface), and ensure that the levels are, in fact, low enough to not distort. Remember, you can always boost the volume post-recording.

Have you tried a different USB cable and/or RCA? Also, make sure your interface is set to a line level source and that no extra gain is being applied by the audio interface's mixer, if applicable. Lastly, if your interface offers another type of input (1/4" TRS or XLR) try those and see if you experience the same issues.
