I realise that there are other posts on the forum but my issue is slightly different. What I did was move my entire music collection to an external hard drive. My original database was on a windows computer and I was looking to transfer it to a Mac. I took the steps of copying the folder to the External HDrive and then I copied the master database and it said that it had copied over.
When I plugged it into my mac my mac didn't recognise it which I realise is because it's not in the right format.
Next, I plugged the external hard drive back into the windows and tried to move my master database back onto the original computer so i could reformat the hard drive and then move it across to the mac. However, when i plugged it back in I couldnt get it to recognise it, and it gave me the option to load the master database from some back up. I hit yes, and my songs all appeared and my Intelligent playlists were there and my cues - BUT my playlists are empty. All the tags are lost, and the playlists are empty but the ratings and cue points are saved... which seems odd.
Is there anything I can do to repopulate the playlists without manually doing it? I have tried with the hard drive plugged in the preferences>advanced to move the database back but it thinks the master database is already on the windows computer.
I've tried to be as clear with my steps but please let me know if there is something else I can do?

to add some further detail, I have all my songs back on the windows laptop and I am tempted to change master database to the external hard drive and hoping that will mean that the playlists are going to repopulate - but i dont want to do this yet without your confirmation because i am worried that i will lose more data.
Im playing out on thursday so if u can reply tomorrow it will really help me!

If you're moving from computer to computer, the best way to do that is via Library > Backup then Library > Restore, and yes, it can take the music along with it.

Sounds to me like it was trying to restore one of the session backups. If that was the case, part of the reason things are haywire is they're in two different locations. Some files exist on the external drive, some on the internal drive.
Were you ever able to get the external reading again?

ok so for what i did on the original computer it asked some form of question like "no masterdatabase would you like to restore from back up database" - i hit yes, and all songs cue points playlists and ratings appeared but My Tags had been lost and thus intelligent playlists unpopulated - manual playlists were populated - not the worst issue.
Anyway, that's as it is and i can make the intelligent ones again relatively quickly because all my genres and stuff i used to make them is intact (thank god).
Using the restore library trick you just told me (which i shudve worked out myself if i wasnt such a fool) has now populated my new mac with my tunes and the ratings and the playlists! Yay! one thing tho, i assume its hosted on my external harddrive for now as i didnt copy the restore file to my mac i just restored it from the hard drive... how can i get it that botht the music and the database are both on the new Mac. I am tantalisingly close to getting this sorted - id like to say thanks a bynch for the help!
i also think i have some master database saved in a pioneer folder on the hard drive... so there may be a way to get some of the tags back but tbh at this stage im not majorly fussed !
You can tell where the database is loading from by simply disconnecting the external drive before opening rekordbox. If it then tells you it can't find the database and will load the default location (internal), you can click Yes and see what it loads. If it doesn't ask you, the source was already the internal drive.
